I bought a Nikon D70, and I love it.
A huge step up from a little point and shoot, I can't wait to take some real pics with it.

I'll post pics as soon as I can, unfortunately the weather here sucks, and I'm just learning the cam, it's my first DSLR, and I'm a noob!

Hopefully I can't get some good pics within the next few days, as for pics of the camera, I'll dig out my point and shoot to take some pics of it.

A cool one!
Actually, I'm just to lazy to go over and look in the bag to see the lens.
I bought the camera off Craigslist used from a friend (turned out I knew the guy lol)
I was going to get a new rebel Xsi, but I just couldn't turn down this deal.

Most people that have a dslr/slr also have a point and shoot. I had three at one time until I lost one.

Yes, I have a point and shoot as well (Samsung Digimax 7.2 MP) I also have a Canon Rebel 35mm.

I'll take some pics of the camera tomorrow, and try to get a couple pictures off the new one.

The lens on it is a Nikon 18-70mm 1:3.5-4.5G (no idea what that means)
I'm looking at getting a lens with a little more zoom on it.
This one in particular (a 55-200). http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=n...896081&ref=pd_sl_iuzdpsioh_b

I'm uploading pictures from the concert last night and nursing a sore back, so I'll try to get some up shortly here.

Nice pictures.

Definitely need some sort of fill flash though. Direct flash is gross. Creates shadows, and whites out the subject.

Just some C&C though.

I've been tossing around the idea of a better flash, I would love to drop down the ISO a ton more as well, however it was as dark as could be in that room so it made it tough to get pictures.
Hopefully Santa will bring a nice flash this year!

If I'm correct, for low light situations, you need a low aperture lens?

I do recall reading Canon's "Nifty Fifty" lens can get as low as like 1.4, and thats what a lot of people use in low-light areas. However, the nifty-fifty is a prime, so no zoom.

Either way, nice photos.

Edit: Duh! Forgot you had Nikon. Disregard the nifty fifty statement.

Yeah, you need a lens with a 1.4 or 1.8 max aperture if you're doing concert photography. Using a flash is usually frowned upon, unless you know the band or something. You'll have to bump up the ISO and use AV mode, set to as high as it can go (1.2, 1.4, 1.icon_cool.gif for those low light situations.

No Problem, just set the pipe down from time to time icon_lol.gif

I've got a couple lenses I'm looking at, but the first thing is going to be a better flash.
I may get a lens with a better zoom as there's one on craigslist that's going for a great price.

Take a look at this website:

http://www.fredmiranda.com/

They have lots of lens reviews, and a great message board. You'll find some good prices on some used equipment there. I would buy from there over Craigslist anyday.

Well, you're limited to prime lenses if you want an aperture that large. Prime means it's a fixed focal length. 30mm, 50mm, 80mm. It's the opposite of a zoom lens, which is what you have (18-70). I'm not very up to date on any Nikkor lenes, but this one might be a good purchase:

http://www.fredmiranda.com/reviews/showproduct....amp;sort=7&cat=12&page=2

It's a 50mm lens, which might be a bit long on your D70. I believe it has the same 1.6 crop as many Canon cameras do, so then lens will look like a 75mm or 80mm lens. It's quite fast too, with a max apeture of 1.4.

EDIT - The D70 has a 1.5 crop. Multiply the lens focal length by that and that's what you're actually going to get.

Here's a nicer lens, a 28mm 1.4. It will act like a 50mm lens, given the crop factor, and it's as fast as the above lens. It is a little more expensive with an average price of $1400.
