Well, I'm looking for a new TV. The current one is getting retired from the living room to the bedroom. I've just recently started my research and I'm wanting opinions on TVs. So far the top three candidates I've found from online browsing are as follows:

#1) Samsung LN-T4671F
(off cnet reviews)

#2) Sharp - AQUOS 46" 1080p 120Hz Flat-Panel LCD HDTV
(off the Best Buy website)

#3) Sony Bravia KDL-V40XBR1
(off cnet reviews)

I would really like TV #1, but I'm not sure the $2,200 price is justified. TV #2 seems to incorporate the vast majority of TV #1 and is about $700 less.

But I've had a guy at work who researches displays tell me to not go with Sharp. I'm not sure if that's just a personal choice (ie, he just hates Sharp) or if it's backed up by some research he has done.

TV #3 seems to be a solid choice, but at 40", it's a little on the smaller side. icon_confused.gif
I guess I could live with a 40" TV, but something bigger would be nice.j

Anyone have any opinions on these TVs or TVs in general? Am I overlooking something obvious? Ideally I was looking for something in the ~$1500 range. I'll continue my research and start actually looking at the TVs in person soon. Just wanting some initial opinions.

I'd say Sharp. The pictures are so nice! The AQUOS series are also amazing! Don't go with the Sony - they're so much more expensive.

Also, check out the Pioneer series. Or, since you mentioned you were wanting to get a new gaming console, look at Vizios. I know, they're the "economy" package, but we got a 42" 1080p LCD for $900. Take the extra money, buy you a brand new PS3/360 and load up with games.

BAM! You're still within your $1,500 range, and are actually saving money. If you're stubborn though about your brands, like some people are when it comes to this, check out the Sharp.

My roommate has one similar to this:

http://www.amazon.com/LG-42LG70-42-Inch-1080p-1...eo&qid=1225749131&sr=1-4

I love it. LG makes a very nice TV. His is an older model I believe. Got it for $999.

Either way, most likely the deals on TVs and such are going to get ridiculous between Thanksgiving and Christmas, so would probably be a good idea to wait until then to actually get one.

That's what I'm doing, at least

That's what I'm planning on doing. I figured I would get all the research out of the way and get a more solid understanding of newer technologies that are out before it's time to buy.
When black Friday rolls around I expect to be out searching for a good price w/ a few specific TVs in mind.

I really like the 120Hz refresh rate. I think that might quickly become a necessity, but I'm not sure. Keep the opinions coming.

Look for a good refresh rate and a high contrast ratio.

Just go to a store and look at TV's side by side and go with the one that YOU think has the best picture.

Definately go with the Samsung DLP icon_biggrin.gif Mine works great I love it!

And go with Best Buy, Circuit City just announced on the news they're going out of business. All of them. Wow, huh? Here's a link if you wanna check it out. It's not a flatscreen, and the stand I bought for mine was only about $350 and it takes up half my room but it's an awesome TV.

I got a 57" Mitsubishi DLP last year. The picture is awesome w/ blu-ray
You can get some monster sized TV's if you go DLP.
My bro wanted me to go LCD or Plasma. But W/ DLP you get more screen for the money.

I think they have a 73" DLP for around $1500-$2000 now.

View the DLP before you get it though, as some people notice a rainbow effect that is annoying (most don't, it is like the flicker on a computer monitor, most never notice, but some do) - at least, that is the case with projectors, not sure about TVs - I assume they are the same though.

Yehh the Mitsu 73" was on display next to the 67" Samsung. I was going back and forth trying to decide what size I wanted. Went with the Samsung becuase I was exchanging in a 56" Samsung that I bought last month cause I wanted bigger. The Mitsu was running around $2,000 I believe. My 67" Samsung I have now was $2,300. And the 56" Samsung I exchanged was only $1,300. A great price for what it was. So I went with the Samsung again. Samsung is the official TV for the NFL by the way. Plus i'm not a fan of Mitsu, after my horrible 4 month long Eclipse ordeal, anything with the Mitsu badge on it won't get my money. And the image quality is amazing, I have a Samsung Blu-Ray player and my XBOX360 ran via HDMI cable. The colours are so vivid it was shocking the first time I watched a movie. o.0 My next upgrade will be a retracting screen and a projector. =]] Gonna go monsterous next time. 67" is starting to bore me already...

I noticed that if i move my eyes back and forth across the screen really fast, or shake my head left and right I can see alittle rainbow effect.

Its cause the DLP uses a spinning color wheel.
Still, I try not to move my head so violently while I'm watching tv icon_wink.gif

Some people don't notice it at all. My wife still doesn't know what I'm talking about.

Its not a big deal IMO. I like my big screen.

Being that I am super picky on menus/interface, I can say I thoroughly enjoy our two year old Sony Wega 50".

I haven't been able to find another manufacturer that combines superb picture quality and a top notch menu/feature system.

I think they are just shutting down certain stores.

If you are buying this TV at a local B&M store such as best buy or circuit city, OPEN IT IN THE STORE or have it installed buy the store.

I have read far to many posts online about getting it home and having a damaged TV, then them blaming you for it...

Samsung makes great TV's. Parents have a 52" 720p Plasma and the picture is awesome. I also have a Toshiba Regza LCD and absolutely love it. From the 3 you listed, my vote is the samsung!

i agree with Golfer. no floor models. bought my 72" panasonic and a week later the projector bulb blew out. also if they say you can't install the replacement bulb yourself. they're more than likely lying. read the manual. i like choice #2 the best.
