Hi, just found this site recently and really like the looks of the products here. I currently am running 5 watt 3157 style led lights for backup, although they do the job w/ the factory tint on the back window i am looking for more light, i was thinking of running 2 smd strips under the tailgate, do you think this will work, I am looking for led for colormatching to the backups.

Not sure whether or not your current backups are cool white, neutral white, or warm white.

If so, look at the waterproof ribbon strips. They are really really bright. SMD bars will also look good.

They make high wattage halogen back up bulbs ... Mine are almost as bright as headlights (35 watts)

They are a cool white color, i will look into the strips, i know they make the 35 even a 50 watt backup light but its halogen and yellowish i like it to match the current setup, thanks for another idea though.

Honestly with the led strips you aren't going to have much light you will see from the driver seat. yes it is bright. But I think you need more like higher wattage bulbs in your reverse lights. Not an led strip.

Yeah I agree, those strips will definitely look good and let others know you're backing up,but they certainly won't help much at lighting up the area behind your ride.A slightly higher halogen bulb replacement, seems to be the best option for actual light output in a reverse light application. icon_cool.gif

Cool, i kinda figured that they might be inadequate for back lighting but all opinions are welcome.I will definitely get 2 for under the hood since GM failed to give one from the factory, will the engine heat shorten or kill the life of these leds (smd strips) since leds dont respond well to heat.
