Hope ya like my new mod. I got rear ended around 2 minutes away from my house. I was completely stopped at a red light waiting to make a left hand turn and BAM this chick hit me going around 30-35mph. Didnt feel good at all. The news gets better though. Why do i have the bumper back on yes the bumper that is completely fine? Cause i have to go to NJ to get my alarm taken out because the car is totaled. Everything is out of the car and its completely stripped down. Went to the junk yard today and got 3 rims and tires(only needed 3 because of the spare in the trunk) because they said there has to be wheels on it if i take my rims off. I luckily saved the stock radio because the claims adjuster said there had to be a radio in it. I might be selling a few things so keep your eyes open for a thread for a few things. Car is getting taken on Monday dunno how much im getting yet. Any ideas of cheaper cars to look into??

Ouch. Did the person who hit into you say anything about not being able to see your brake lights?

Or was she on a cell phone?

Sorry to hear about your accident.....

I hate to mention this as well, but if the insurance company (hers) requests pictures of the damage you are going to be found at fault regardless of what she was doing (minus any criminal traffic laws she was breaking at the time such as DWLS or DUI)

Your brakelights are illegal and you might be held responsible for both vehicles. Your insurance company may state they will not cover it as well due to your brake lights.

Hope everything works out for you and it gets taken care of. Although I love the look of the tinted lights and had them on my stang as well as the truck (removed from the truck), I removed them for this specific reason.

State laws are sometimes vague when it comes to these kind of things....but all state laws require RED be shown from the back of the vehicle, illuminated and as a reflector.

Your bumper has no damage, yet the car is totaled?

This thread makes no sense.

This car is totaled? I concur. Did the air bags go off? How many miles on this beast?

Man that suck!

I would check into and see how much you can buy the car back for. My buddy had his Impala totaled and he bought it back for 300 bucks and still drives it, he was much like you, minimal body damage to the rear. But maybe your airbags deployed? he just cruises around with Liability only

Kyle, i drive with my headlights on at ALL times. I have DRLs so the headlights are usually dimmed so i always have them manually turned on day or night, rain or shine(it was raining also). Therefore my tails were illuminated and my brakes were applied and my center brake light is not tinted either. My tails are still pretty bright either way you look at it. Cops or claims adjuster didnt say a word about it though.

The reason it is totaled is because the claims adjuster said the rails and the frame are completely bent and its a 2000 with 102K miles on it no airbags went off though. There is also something wrong with the wiring too now i put my hazards on when it happened and they wouldnt stay on so i dunno what that is about either. Nor do i really care cause there is nothing i can do about it now at this point and time.

Yeah, a 30 mph dead on impact can really bend a car up.

How do you feel physically?

The only reason you can call his tails illegal is b/c he has no reflectors. There's no law (at least in my state) that says you can't have tinted tail lights. It only specifies how bright they must be and that there are red reflectors. All you can see from these pictures is that there are no red reflectors. icon_confused.gif

sorry bout your man.

same thing happened to me with my black probe. woman rearended me in a parking lot due to her making a u-turn. hit my car so hard it shoved the front lip into and 1' tall sidewalk.
ended up bending a part of the frame next to the spare tire.
totaled the car.

Airbag didnt go off because there is no sensors in the back. If he hit a car in front and hard enough, it would probably go off.

their airbag didnt go off either so i guess it wasnt hard enough. anybody know exactly how fast a car would have to be going for a normal working airbag to go off?

Regulations is 12-15mph impact before airbag deploys. What car was the persons and was there damage?

More than likely, it wasnt hard enough. Didnt look like there was a lot of damage to your car either except for bumper. When they say frame, do they mean the part that is holding the bumper guard? (looks bent down) I personally think the car is not totaled. Is that your claims adjuster or the other parties? The only person who can fully make the call is a body shop. A claims adjuster is just eyeballing it. Not saying I know it all...just speaking from previous experience.

My gf got rear ended back in August. Her claims adjuster gave an estimate of $1600 just from eye balling. The other parties claim adjuster came and gave an estimate of $900. Took it to body shop to get repaired and cost was $2200. Since they were at fault, they paid the $900 and remaining balance of the $2200 or so. Both claims adjuster just looked at the outside condition and just looked under the car.

Air bag sensors are in the front of the vehicle and the fender wall just between the door and the front fender....

a rear impact would need to be MASSIVE before it tripped the sensors to go off....you are also being propelled backwards into the seat from a rear accident.

Ryan, regardless if your headlights were on or off and her insurance company wanted to argue it....you would have to prove yourself in a court.....its her eyewitness vs yours...if she says she couldnt see your tail lights and the judge looked at them the way they sit....you could lose, thats all I'm saying.

All states have laws regarding rear reflectors....some have yet to change regarding the darkness of the lamp...but you are correct PwrRngr, most laws state that when the brakes are applied a red light must be visible for X amount of feet to the rear of the vehicle.

Hey tim,

Men are more than twice as likely to die in a car crash than women, consider the yearly statistics shown below. In fact, studies have shoiwn as many as 73 percent of all people killed in car accidents are male. Since record keeping began: male fatalities significantly outweigh female fatalities. However men and women do not drive the same number of miles under the same conditions- men do about 60-65% more driving than women. Studies show that woman take shorter trips and female drivers have a greater number of minor crashes than do men. However men are still 70% more likely to be in a serious crash.

found on http://www.car-accidents.com/pages/car-crash-men-woman.html

It is not an actual statistic on the difference but helps to put stuff into perspective....

sucks to hear man, it may work out for the better though as hard as that is to believe, its true though it happened to me.. the pic in my sig is of what used to be my Doge intrepid 01 with like 70,000 miles. Until it was stolen and then found in a patch of desert here in las vegas lit on fire. BUT!!!! now I drive the car I have wanted since I was like 12 or 13, thats my 01 firebird convirtable 52,000 miles on it. wanted the TA actually but same thing kind of.

so you see. even if you really loved your car, now can be the time to get something different which you will really really love and enjoy driving everyday..

Good luck with all of this man, and once again, sucks to hear.
