Those are pretty expensive CPUs. Just wondering, why do you want to upgrade?

What are you using it for? 3D rendering? Here's a nice motherboard.

Not sure. The one I listed I found in an i7 thread over at [H]ard forum.

Honestly, you might want to upgrade your video card instead. Maybe a HD 4870 or GTX 260. The 2900 XT really scores low against those other two.

Or check this out:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813188039

Probably what I would buy if I had the money. I'll update link to Newegg when I get a chance.

yeah i know the vid card is crap, but the cpu is **** for overclocking and the motherboard had to be RMA'd already, and that took 3 weeks, so i dont wanna go through that again. plus i can sell the old system to my bro already said he'd buy it.

The 260 is a very good card as well, and a few hundred dollars cheaper.

EDIT

I am extremely jealous of you for being able to drop ~$600 on some amazing hardware like that. Snap some shots of your completed case when you're finished and some benchmark results.

Before you buy new hardware....do some basic cleaning on your system.
Download Abexo Free Registry Cleaner....
http://www.abexo.com/afrcfree.exe
Download CCleaner....
http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/down...3ebc0a8a4669ed106ad70d0ac3dfd3f/
Download Spybot....
http://www.spybotupdates.com/files/spybotsd160.exe

Run all of those programs and your system should feel a bit peppier.
I'm running an AMD Opteron 165 overclocked to 2.7Ghz on an Asus A8n-SLi Deluxe motherboard with 2 Ghz of PC3400 and an ATi 4870 videon card and I can run every game out there just fine withall the eye candy.

If your planning on just getting new hardware, I would personally wait until just after the new year. Prices will drop quite a bit and you'll get more bang for your buck. icon_smile.gif

Q45guy: lol thanks for the links, but i just formatted and its still slow....for me at least, running fallout 3 with everything maxed runs great, but it could be faster, i think ill take your tip and wait though till the new year plus i can get some money from Christmas which will make it a little easier to get the stuff.

Tim: dont like nvidia drivers, seems like when i had one they came out with new drivers every weekend, they make me crazy, but ati has there problems too my gpu crashes out of games sometimes when theres to much going on...gotta read up on new cards before i choose one.

debating whether or not to wait after new years or buy now, but im looking at:
ASUS Rampage II Extreme LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard
Intel Core i7 920 2.66GHz LGA 1366 Quad-Core Processor
SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 4870 X2 2GB 512-bit (256-bit x 2) GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card

which is a little over $1200 so idk how much it will drop if any good drop after the hoildays.

What video card did you get? That's what's limiting you right now. I hope you didn't spend all that money and not upgrade the most important component.

I'd love to get one of those new i7 processors, just waiting for the price to come down a bit.

dude there is no point in getting a quad core, ally our doing is gaming, nothing uses the quad cores game wise, databasing systems and severs use the quads, its just a waste of money atm. just get a new viod card, and heres a great idea, get a raptor hdd and raid it in striping if you really wanna see a performance increase, most of your computer is limited by the speed of the hdd.

i have two raptors in raid 0 forgot to mention that, i actually might start up 3dmaxing/inventoring, if my job goes the right way, and since the new i7 is out its an excuse to get one, also ordered a sapphire 4870 512 mb with what was mentioned above.

I forgot to ask, what size monitor do you have? For smaller resolutions, Nvidia is really the way to go. Anything larger, or a dual monitor setup ATI/AMD really pushes through.

Quote:
The primary benefit of moving to 64-bit is the increase in the maximum allocatable system memory (RAM). A single process on a 32-bit Windows operating system is limited to a total of 3.2 GB, which is typically equally divided between kernel and application usage. Windows XP x64 can support much more memory; although the theoretical memory limit a 64-bit computer can address is about 16 exabytes, Windows XP x64 is limited to 128 GB of physical memory and 16 terabytes of virtual memory.

Wait, how does Core2Quad have 8 cores? Shouldn't it only have four? Or is that the whole 2quad thing (2x4)?
