As Christmas approaches I have to find my little brother (junior in high school) a present. He just got his first car not too long ago so I'm going to get him a set of subwoofers or an amp b/c that's what he wants. I'm looking for opinions on what I should get him. Which would you rather have if you have to choose from the options below:
1) Amp, JBL GTO14001 2) Subwoofers (x2), JBL W12GTi MKII 3) Subwoofers (x2), Infinity Kappa Perfect 12DVQ So, which would you rather receive as a present. |

As a junior in high school I would have wanted the highest SPL. From my experience with Infinity subs, I would guess the JBL's offer more SPL.
On the other hand, after I grew out of that "SPL" stage I would want the Infinity's for SQ. |

Can I ask first why those are your options? There's better equipment you can get in the same price range. Is this just stuff you can get locally?

Hey! What happened to my post? I know I replied earlier. I said as a Sr' in high school I'd go with the 2 JBLS.

If you can find a comparable subwoofer or amplifier in the price range of $40-$55, I'll be more than happy to consider it. I get Infinity, JBL, and Harman/Kardon at CONSIDERABLE discounts. |

Ah alright lol, well I've never heard JBL, but never been too impressed by Infinity, so I'll say the more powerful JBLs.

Infinity SQ is amazing. You won't get much SPL out of them, which is why you have probably never been too impressed. I was very impressed with their SQ.

Yeah..I think the SQ should come from a good front stage, and the power from the trunk
Infinity- Power Handling: 400w RMS Max Power: 1600w Sensitivity: 89dB JBL- Power Handling: 700w RMS Max Power: 4000w Sensitivity: 91dB |

HAHa ok, i HAVE the infinty, and it does have AMAZING SQ BUT in the right ported box, which i have, u can get some NICE SPL out of it. O and it HITS THE LOW NOTES UNBELIEVABLY but some of the higher 1's, not so much. but i would say the infinity, caise if he's with a girl, he can turn the bass down a BIT but still have the NICE clean bass. thats what i do. O and it HITS like crazy.

I decided to buy the amp. Then after Christmas, I'll let him go on the site and choose what subwoofers he wants to order. If he doesn't want to order any, I have a ton laying around that I'll give him.
