It's been a while since I've read up on car audio stuff... Here was my old setup in my old car: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/146842/4
Wanted to set up some good, clean, accurate hitting bass in my truck so I was going to use two 10's vs 12's. Just looking for suggestions of some quality 10's... Super loud really isn't important. I've got about 500-600w rms to work with. |

JL is overpriced. Check out Image Dynamics for great SQ, Fi's Q series is rumored to be amazing, and on more of a budget, MB Quart.

I have a JL Audio 12w6v2 and I love it, but understand it is quite expensive.
Might also wanna look into RE Audio. |

The two Elemental Designs subs I had sounded like ass crack, but their amps are quality on different subs. Kicker is geared towards SPL, not SQ.

if u want tight bass, u dont need to stick with 10's. you can buy a single 12 or 15 that will hit just as good. I have always stood by alpine and will continue too. The box you stick your subs in will play a huge role in the quality of the sound as well as the amp and the cleanliness of power it produces. Soundsplinter is supposed to be very good as well, a bit expensive, audiopulse is ok from what i understand but very expensive, eclipse is great as always, ascendant audio is ok from i hear as well. Your best bet is to go and listen to each type and see what you like best.

Audiopulse is simply the best. But they are VERY pricey. I almost had a REVO in my car instead of my BTL. For SQ, Alpine's Type-R's are not a good choice, however I have heard good things about the Type-X.

Speaker Quality is all based on Intsall.
There so many options and choices out, there, you have to have some Limits. First Budget, Second How much space are you willing to give. What music do you listen to? |

I disagree.. Type R's sound great! At least the 300w ones.. Dunno about the newer 500w ones.

I'm surprised no one has mentions Infinity. They strive on the clean bass.
I also agree w/ the first statement about the Type Rs. They are boomy and are aimed more for SPL. They have always sounded muddy to me. |

not if you go pre-owned. I picked mine up for $200 as a store's display model. Imo, a w3 or in a sealed box near the lower end of the reccomended sealed-enclosure range would yield very accurate bass. |

I run my Type R in a sealed undersized enclosure with polyfill to compensate. The enclosure is a fiberglass resin/marglass mix, approx 1 inch thick. That thing can hit hard, yet delivers very clean bass, and I'm a very big SQ person. I can care less about SPL. Usually people are looking at JL's for boom, and typically I see people with JL's running ported boxes which are typically tuned to a specific frequency, unlike a sealed box where it's more geared towards a larger range. But that's just my 2 cents. To each their own =)

I got 2 12w3v3s in a sealed box. The base is very accurate(running an alpine PDX600 amp) and clean. I love the set up. |

maybe he just went out to his local best buy or circuit city and just listened to what they had instead of listening to us debate about whats better.

type r's are not meant for SPL, type x's are geared more for that. i have the 1000w peak 300w rms models and i put 500w to them and they take it. I dont know how the newer 1500w models do.
TBH, we could all debate all day which sounds better but sound quality is so based on ones personal perceptions. yes there is a major defining line sometimes but most brands are very close and sound better to different people. |
