I'm on a budget of about 130-150 for 4 speakers. 4" in the front and 6x8 in the back. The brands i'm choosing from are Boston Acoustics, Alpine, Polk Audio and MA Audio. Im more of an sq guy but i have a new 12" Kenwood KFC-W3011 being powered at about 350rms so they need to be loud enough and not distort here are the options.

Boston Acoustics: s45 and sx85 for $130.45 dealercostcaraudio.com

Alpine: sps 400 and spr57c (i know 5x7) for $134 dealercostcaraudio.com

Polk Audio: db401 and db571 for $144.21 sonicelectronix.com

MA Audio: y3040k and ma6829 for $89.98 sonicelectronix.com

Well most of these were in my price range and had good review on sonicelectronix.com. What does everyone think about infinity?

I have Infinitys in my car and I love them. I have Kappas, but References are very nice speakers. Might also want to look into CDT audio or MB Quart. Really depends on what you want. MB has the sharpest highs, Infinitys will have sharper highs than CDT. Avoid Alpine, their speakers suck. Alpine HUs and amps are awesome though.

CDT Audio and MB Quart are great recommendations, if they're in your price range. CDT will take the tops, and I'd put MB Quart probably just above Boston Acoustics, but only because I like sharp highs.

I've got infinity in my car, had them in there about 2 years, reference in the rear, kappa's up front (I think) sounds great to me, they're powered off the deck, and I have a 12" alpine type-r with a 1,200 watt hifonics amp, they keep up just fine (of course the amp is turned down about 50%)

The SPS are alpines bottom-tier speakers. They're okay, but certainly not bragging material. I had the SPS coax and eventually the SPS components in my first truck.

I'm running SPX series now (top tier just below F#1) and they're much cleaner and WAY more powerful.

Give them some hours of playing at low volume before turning them up or you run the risk of lifting the spider off the landing.

Let the speakers play at a reasonable volume for a few hours before cranking on them. If you don't do this, you run the risk of ruining the speakers.

even if i didn't know car audio, RISK in a category of speakers would be easy enough to put 2 and 2 together and figure that he's talking about it could ruin the speaker
