I live in trentonj nj and use my ufo's on my supra all the time thru ewing and trenton with no problems, even went to ac but did get stopped buy state trooper and he just told me to turn them off on the highway, last night im crusin thru town and my radar goes nuts for 5 seconds and suddenly theres a trooper to my left at the red light, hes in the left turn lane , as I pull off he decided to follow me so I pulled over to let him pass and he turns on his bubbles, so I pull over, he asks for my paper work and then ask if the interior of the car is real snakeskin, so I inform him I do custom interiors and that its embossed leather, he informs me he does not know if the lights are illegal but suggests I turn them off, I complied , gave him my business card, and sailed off into the night, I am trying to get a clear interpretation of the law at this moment and see it varies state to state when they are on I always obey the speed limit but if I have to get busy they get turned off so I can warm the twins up!!

i don't feel like going through the laws. but if it's like my state it might be flashing lights, or certain colors. not sure on the law there, but some cops/troopers obviously don't know all the laws word for word so idk.

Why not call your local Police Dept? Simply e-mailing them they often reply with a good response.

any color light is illegal on the outside of the car in NJ. my father is a state trooper, says even with interior lighting its best to keep it on only on back roads and parking lots although only like 50% of the police will give u a ticket the rest will just let u off with a warning.

dont call your local police departmenet....most traffic items are handled by your state patrol...give your local Staties a call and find out what they say...

I can almost guarantee that you cant have flashing/switching color while driving and light source cannot be seen....

Consult your state laws and keep a copy of them with you regarding lighting and colors emitted from vehicle....this will help you if you do get stopped and they are legal....We dont memorize that entire book of laws...we simply go to the book for best interpretation of the law....anything you can provide us if we stop you will help with laws that are vague such as neon lighting for some states...

Just remember, you are going to attract attention so if you get stopped and they are legal...be courteous and not an ass... icon_wink.gif

Cooler you are with cops the cooler they are with you.

I'm printing all the ohio laws out to have them with me.

I run around with straight red lights and they show a ton.

Maybe in your state. So I can have no headlights and a no muffler and only state Police will be concerned? My town has many ordinances against mufflers and other modifications that other towns don't. So calling the state will get you no where

In Mass you have a much better chance of a local Traffic Supervisor responding than someone @ the State Police HQ.

Who is going to be pulling you over anyways. A state trooper in your neighborhood or a local officer?

We have Sheriff's but they don't stop people or even really patrol they handle serving of papers and the jail system. The State Troopers patrol the highways and major routes and patrol state owned parks and buildings. The local P.D respond to all calls and patrol traffic day to day in the city.

I would call you encounter the most. The local officers on the road. If that is a state officer or a country sheriff or McGruff the crime dog give them a call.

its all about where u live i think. i live in a twon of aabout 8.000 people and i can drive by stereo blasting, LEDs on, revving my exhaust and wont get pulled over. but it depends on town/city/state and there ordinances. and anything flaching blue and red whether parked or driving is Impersonating a police officer and its a big fine. i know from experience

good rule of thumb, anything but solid, mixture of red & blue, being able to see the actual bar/leds, interfering with your safety signals, glaring or blocking your license plates, or inside your grill will get your pulled over in most places
