ok, well its EXTREMELY cold today, like in the negs. well, my blazer was sitting outside all day today, its a 94 btw. now it wont start, it KINDA wants to but it wont, it has alittle less than 1/2 a tank of gas, and yea. idk. i kinda need it to start. now 1 is there a problem or is it just too cold to start? and is there anyway to keep this from happening again?

thanks, Dave

depends on how cold it is.

seems that you've been having alot of problems with your car. cold will also drain a battery, from what i've heard.. it's usually harder for me to start my car when the engine is cold then when it's a normal temperature.

Never hurts to buy a good battery. I won't put anything but Optima Red Top's in my cars as replacements - the quality is good, and they are not affected by the cold nearly as much as a lead acid battery. Start every time! For around $150, it's just not worth messing with in the dead ass cold is it?

My guess is, as old as it is: There could be a small drain somewhere + the cold + aging battery = no start... just went through this with the Volvo.

Do they all have the same battery? Bought at the same time with the same wear?

You never know. A great way to quick test is try and jump the truck.

Another big problem I've run into is water in the gas lines. When it gets super cold, it will freeze the gas lines. This can happen if you don't always keep a full tank of gas.

Dump some iso-heet (red bottle, gas sations sell it) into the tank and let it sit overnight. If that doesn't work its way through the gas, you might need to pulll the truck into a heated garage or sit with a heatgun/hair dryer and work the gaslines.

In the future, never go below 3/4 of a tank when it's really cold out, and use iso heet every other tank.

IMO HEET works great so listen to the man but just realize that engines are all metal! When it gets cold its not gunna wanna fire up all hunky dory.

ways to prevent are keep full gas, Park indoors (dosent have 2 be heated just indoors outta the direct snow), and if your car has an electrical plug in under the hood... use it.

Its not the battery its just cars especially older ones have a harder time with cold weather. trust me ND is pure cold

If you have a battery charger, might as well throw that on there for a few hours too. Warming it up by itself might help, but not as much as you think (if it's all ready been drained due to cold or draw).

So what?

I've had batteries be **** right off the shelf, and this one wasn't quite a year old.

I simply haven't found a lead acid battery that lasts in harsh climates.

How cold is it? Your car doesn't care about windchill. The actual temperature is what matters.
As has been stated, the battery is going to be the first thing to crap out when it gets cold. Even w/ all the current battery technology, none of them really like the cold.

Just Chill (hehe) but seriously the odds of ur battery **** is slim unless its pretty old.
Its been 10 below without wind here for a few days and my cars are fine... just keep the battery inside like you said and if it dont work throw the whole thing inside and that should do the trick

Are you serious? I've had new batteries go on me in less than a month! Thank God for returns.

Check the battery, jump the vehicle, take it to a shop.

Get a multi-meter, read the voltage. If its under 12.5 or so, you have a lack of starting power.

What all are you pulling with this battery? What comes on when you try to start it?

Does it crank over? Does it do anything? More info.

Well if it's capable of cranking over(a good strong cranking) then it's certainly not your battery. icon_confused.gif

It might be something with your intakes. I had to get my car intake fixed before winter otherwise I'd have the same problem as you. It sounds just like how the guy who fixed my car explained it to me
