Im almost positive that any and all tinting on rear tail lights is illegal but that doesnt stop anyone from doing it though. And i have yet to hear anyone use an actual % to tint tails. Most people use VHT Niteshade or they use a black paint mixed with something else(i forget lol) to make the light visible.

It can be legal. You're going to have to look up the state laws regarding tail/brake lights. In Indiana it only specifies that the light output must be so bright from the brake lights and there must be two red reflectors. Hence why I tinted mine the way they are and installed a LED 3rd brake light.

depends on the state statute...check with your State Patrol for specific law for your area.

usually any film or cover that diminishes the light output visible from the brake lamps is illegal.
