From what few states laws i've read, it seems that as long as the light source is hidden and only glow is visible, many LEOs will leave you be.

Question, does this also apply to diffused lighting? (i.e. Halo rings of non-white color)

I highly doubt it.. especially if that color is red or blue . Also, to me, diffused lighting is defined by your first definition, where the light source is masked and only the glow is visible . I would think many LEOs would see a halo as a source .

Also despite what the state law might say about the legality of hidden-sourced lighting like underbody we both know that's open to interpretation and many LEOs would feel the need to ticket you out of hand if they saw the lighting on while you were rolling down the street .

All 4 of my tubes show fully 100%. Only gotta be about 25 ft away from my car. I run Red and Blue 24/7.

CPD just told me to run white and all was fine.

Also note my tubes are turned inwards so theres a 0% chance it could "blind" or "interfere" with other drivers.

I run red only, and you can't see any of my tubing, I have not had any troubles.

Lol. I had to go through great lengths to hide the source of my underglow. I'm using LED strips so when the light source shows it looks xtra ghey. I used Angle Aluminum bars to hide the source and provide a secure mounting point. Looks much better now.

Pic 1 - Standing 25 - 30 ft away on a 3 ft grade.

Pic 2 - Standing 40 ft away or so with 1 ft grade.

Pic 3 - Standing roughly 20 - 25 ft way no grade.

Pic 4 - Standing 10 ft away no grade.

Note - I have wheel well glow that for some reason this camera just can't handle I guess. Its an old camera that still uses floppy disk tech. I know its bad rofl.

When I wash and buff then polish my car I am going to have a friend come over and take pictures with her huge camera that costs hundreds and hundreds of dollars on a nice warm night. Then I'll have some decent pics for you guys.

Also this camera doesn't even show how far out my glow goes. Looks like I hardly have any glow but believe me its very bright and its there.

I have my tubes turned inward also. If I turn them outward they'll really be bright.

wow...you need to hide the tubes....try looking up under the frame rails and mounting to the inside part of the rail...should be able to hide it....there isn't a log of room but you can def get those hidden better...

as for the question regarding lighting....a lot of states have laws regarding underbody lights and color of lights...halo rings just like washer nozzle lights will get you tickets for most states if they are colored

Ya my lights on the side are literally below the car by an inch rofl.

I have no tail pipe on my exhaust at all either.

I am going to fix all these issues at 1 time.

I have passed 10 state cops and none of them really seem to care about my unhidden tubes so I am just going with it for now.

I could have hid the back one but it would be a PITA to mount it way up in there so we took the eays way out.

i would never turn that on until i hid all of those tubes... it is really not that difficult to properly mount those tubes ... were there is a will there is a way
