Ahh, ok, gotcha.

BTW, I have been out of work since the end of October. Had nothing to do with the economy or a firing. The contract I was working on was up.

I was fired at the beginning of this year. We hired way to many people and hours got cut by a lot of workers. In the end 10 or so of us got fired.

i am lucky to have my job, in AZ there was ahuge budget cut for the universities, majors were cut, about 500 positions total were eliminated, if our section at ASU doesnt produce or prove our worth we will get cut as well.

I got laid off about 2 weeks ago. The company I work for decided to start up a new policy without notifying anyone about it. Basicly it stated that noone on the call center floor could have more that 2 attendance points against them in a 1 year time span. Oh...and they made it retro-active. That means you can't be sick and off for more than 2 FRIGGIN DAYS a YEAR! WTF is that all about??? Anyways, with this new suck-tactular policy, they ended out firing about 15 people. icon_sad.gif

So....the voice of Oznium's phone service is out of work....anyone need a cool voice for their phone systems??? icon_wink.gif

The only job security is in govt. jobs..... I'm glad I have one. And I don't think teachers pay will get cut.... the way it's looking it should increase pretty soon.

I have been with my current company for 2 years now. Not one sick day. Unless I am on my death bed. I will be here. And my managers know this. As I have been here with the cold, fever, etc. They know they can count on me. Job security ftw.

If you get paid sick/vacation time they expect you to take it. It's retarded if you don't. You'll never get that free money back.

I don't. My company is too cheap for that. I get 1 week vacation time. 2 weeks next year! And you can be damn sure I take it lol. But it isn't like I call that morning and say oh yea btw! lol. I give them at least a months notice. To me Vaca days and sick days are completely different.

I am allowed 14 attendance points per year. I haven't been sick since since I started here in 2007. Come to think of it, I can only think of 2 times in the last 10 years of my working life that I didn't make it into work.

There was only 1 day I didn't make it into work. And that was the day we got that huge 10in snow storm. I got stuck halfway there. I was forced to turn around and head home. I had my boss come pick me up from home in his truck and he got me to work.

if the company is going to have a sucktacular policy like that, you don't need to wok for em. That is a **** ass company policy that obviously doesn't care for their employees. Not saying that you didn't need the job, but a business that practices in such a manner is that is rediculous. You can do much better than that.

In Europe (I don't remember the specific country) you're required to take 3 months vacation time. Our system is terrible. I'm a Hospitality Management major so I'm constantly learning how little vacation time most people have in the U.S and how our work dominates our lives.

Naw...I went in the King County Sherriffs Office one time, and it was closed due to budget cuts. That's government too.

You can't even compare those countries to ours. They are two COMPLETELY different systems. It's like comparing apples to oranges.

It should be the way it is in America. The government shouldn't be stepping in and regulating the benefits of the private work sector. Just another step closer to socialism and government control. It should be like it is, determined by the employer.

*EDIT* Also, it's not 3 months. The country with the most vacation days is Denmark and they have 31 (have you checked there taxes? I would rather have less vacation than pay there tax rate. Income tax = 63%). Next is Austria and Finland which have 30 days. France and Norway at 25. Germany has 24. Belgium, Ireland, UK, Netherlands, and Switzerland have 20.

I wasn't aware of all the taxing. The class was pretty much why we need more leisure time and they only told us about the large amounts of vacation time.

Yeah, they have rediculus taxing and it's hurting there economy. But it's just my opinion on the tax to vacation time ratio. I'm sure some people would rather pay higher taxes and get 31 vacation days. Like I said, it's apples to oranges so you really compare the two situations.
