My dad was looking at hot tubes today and the salesman was talking to my dad about this one that had a stereo in it. The salesman told him it had a clarion system in it and it was the next best thing to getting bose sound systems. When he told me that today i just laughted my ass of. I dont trust that place now im going to convince my dad not to by from that guy. That just goes to prove you have to be truthful when making sales.

is that eyeroll for what the dealer said or my idea not to buy from them. Im the kind of person that if the one im buying from doesnt know crap about what they are saying i dont trust them and therefore dont buy from them. I was in ames last summer looking for the coustic amp i have now and the audio store i was at didnt even know there was a 800 watt amp. They had to look it up on internet.
Needless to say i didnt buy from them. |

Okay, first of all, Clarion makes some very respectable products. To make a thread saying that the guy was lying is idiotic. You don't even know that much about Clarion car audio products, let alone home / other audio products. Who's to say that maybe hot tubs only have like three brands of stereos in them? You don't know, therefore it's stupid to make a snap decision.
Second of all, audio stores don't know every single little thing there is to know about audio. Usually, they don't know much outside of what they stock/sell. Otherwise, they know how to look up the product, and find out if it can be ordered. THAT'S what the person was probably doing. He might of even been able to get you a better price on it, by ordering it through dealer prices. You're making really stupid remarks based on your own misinterpreted opinions. |

The guy in ames was arguing that the amp didnt even exist. They only sale coustic, JL, and Eclipes. i would hope they would know alot more about the brands of products they sale. And i looked at what the clarion sound system is it is a cheap version and it is a car audio one, not home audio. I trust people that know there products they sale inside and out, and they just dont read out of the product catalog. Maybe some people are fine walking into a place that doesnt know ****, and taking what ever they say they should get but im not. i also seen the screen at the store they had the coustic web site up and nothing else. not even looking at a product catalog.

My take on salespeople is that they are the only ones in the store with the code to the register to ring up my sale.....
I have to do my own research no matter what. It's the only way to know if the salesperson does or doesn't know about their products. Even if they do know their products, they will usually try to sell you a more expensive item than you need. One of my favorite things to do, is do lots of research on-line, figure out what I want, then aimlessly wander into a store with crappy clothes on. They usually ignore me at first (since I must be poor...). When I finally get someone, I usually point to one of the more expensive items, and say "I'd like one of uhh...... these..." it confuses the hell out of them. |

i hate crumple zones. saftey or whatever, i hate them. I'd feel safer in a solid car. so my mitsubishi salesman tried to describe the crumple zone thing to me when i was looking at an eclipse.
here's some connotation: me: "i hated my hundai accent becuase it fell apart in the 5mph fender bender i got into." he was all like "at only 5 miles an hour, the crumple zones activate, the engine falls down, and the fenders absorb the impact, making it very safe" me salesman: "uhh... well it's a very safe car for that reason" me" "What happened to 5mph bumpers, what's the point of the bumper on this car, just for decoration, i thought the bumper absorbed the impact, so your fenders don't get damaged" salesman: ... me "and what about the engine falling out. My hundai's engine didn't fall out when i got into a crash, how is that a good thing" saleman: "well you see..." me interrupting "and this car is 30,000 dollars, and it falls apart that quickly? what happens if i hit a pothole at 5mph, do my tires automatically deflate to protect me to" salesman fumbling "well uhh" me: and buy the way *pointing at sticker* what's this care package for $1,200?" salesman: "oh, that's our customer care package, we include it with all the cars" me: "great... customer care... and what does that mean" salesman: "oh, well it ensures your car runs properly, includes your first 2 oil changes, and a paint protection guaruntee" me: "oh, so if i hit a rock and the paint chips, or if someone keys my car they'll repaint it for free" salesman laughing "oh no. It ensures your paint won't corrode or rust after time" me "well doesn't the factory warrenty say right here *pointing* 5 year paint protection" salesman "well, yes, it does, but this makes it so we ensure it here" me "why do i need a guaruntee on my paint from normal corrosion anyway, do they use cheap paint at mitsubishi?" salesman "well, no... you see, things happen..." me interrupting"like stone chips" salesman "well yea..." me interrupting "you just said it dosn't cover stone chips" salesman "well it doesn't... but it'll ensure nothing will happen to your paint otherwise" me"and the factory warrenty doesn't?" salesman "well, it does, but WE guaruntee it in our package" me "so you make mitsubishi pay for the paint if anything were to magically happen excluding any damage from anything that made contact with the car" salesman "well this way, you know we do it here" me "so you won't fix it under the factory's warrenty if i bring it here" salesman "of course we will" me "so this "Care Package" Gives me 2 oil changes for $600 each" salesman "and the paint garuntee" me *walks out never to return" |

was the guy new? New guys are told just to give one sales pitch that they learned from another guy. Also, you can't always trust ppl that work on comission. I go in to my local shop all the time just to shoot the ****. I rarely buy stuff and when I do it's not like it's an impulse buy (well except the occasional). It's smart to know what you want before you go in. If you are torn b/t a few different models, go in there and ask for them to show them to you. They will often try to upsell you, but ANY STORE will do that to you. It's business.
Also, SQ is very subjective. And the install can be a big portion of it. Clarion isn't ****. And I'm sure he through Bose out ther eb/c it's one of the biggest brands (for HT) and is hands down the most well known for "innovative technology" and always tries to boast about it's accuracy in all of it's speakers. |

try comparing apples to apples too...
clarion = Hu's bose=speakers bose speakers are made at Phoenix Gold... bose doesn't even manufacture their own sound processors... it's done by sony. sony started clarion, but they branched off to create separation in the name... |

Clarion also makes amps and I thought they made speakers as well but I could be wrong (80% sure they do)
