So today I dropped into Walmart for some drinks for an easter party, I ended up buying a little something for myself. About 42$. Only thing is without the Amplifier my stock stereo cant push enough electricity to these speakers. So if I turn up the volume(creating the need for more power) my radio just gives up and I've gotta turn down the speakers and turn back on the stereo at a lower volumes

The only thing I need/want now is a 600W 2 Channel amp for these babies

One question though... Since I have 2 of these speakers and they are both rated at 300W. Would I use a 2 channel 600W amp??

Questions and all that are generously accepted

RMS is only 100w - peak power is 300W....running it at 300 wouldn't work out so well.

Be much cheaper/easier to get a 2 x 100W amp - would probably save you a few hundred.

Something like that would work.

Any reason that you aren't planning on replacing the other set of speakers in your car and get a 4 channel amp instead? If those are for the rear (which I'm guessing by the size they are) I would def. recommend replacing the front speakers too - you'll notice a much bigger difference from replacing those speakers. Heck, half the time people say you should just get rid of the rear speakers and focus on the fronts.

yeh they are for the back top, the only reason i haven't done the front channels is because of the lack of money

thanks for the amp link, helps with the future decision

Did you custom mount these speakers? Because the actual factory size is 4"x10"s not 6"x9"s icon_confused.gif

ha by custom you mean letting the magnet of the speaker hold itself to the roof then yehh

the guard also holds it in, but its not the best setup i know, and drilling into the ceiling is not a possibility

Yeah, definitely not the best setup. icon_razz.gif I used to have a 97' Tahoe a few years ago,and I installed a pair of Kicker 4x10's in mine for rear fill and they worked pretty good for awhile. Eventually I replaced the 4x10's for 6.5's that I custom mounted in those factory brackets. icon_cool.gif I've heard of some people who have made custom brackets to install a slim sized 6x9 in those factory 4x10 locations.

If your headunit shuts down when you turn up the volume on these then i bet that they are not the same impedance as the stockers. The radio is shutting down to keep from damaging itself not because it is incapable of putting out enough juice.

How many speakers do you have hooked up to the HU now? If you have 4 or 6 speakers tied together, the ohm load could be too low for the HU. You might be able to disconnect the factory speakers and it might work better.

Some pics of this setup, The inputs are from the wires that went to the stock speakers, the output goes to the new Dual ones.

Note: I took a look inside the Kenwood and notice 2 small green capacitors

So in essence is ghetto rigged, although works, and at the time its a matter of having something over having nothing at all
