*Another* Blown-Out Transformer Problem

So I bought a set of cathodes from Oznium and then bought another set from the local computer store.

I hooked everything and extended all the wires with a 16 gauge. The stock wires are 22 gauge i believe. Within a day it stopped working..it usually happens after I have turned off the car, left, came back the next day for it to stop working.

The red light on the transformer still comes on but the cathodes doesn't, does this mean the transformer is blown?

I'm not quite sure if the problem is the wire gauge being a mismatch which I don't think should be a problem and also I'm using a "Add-A-Circuit" with a 5A fuse in it. Does the amperage matter or should I downsize to a 3A? I'm only powering a total of 4 cathodes through 4 transformers.

I tried the transformer from the local computer store and that stopped working as well so it can't be the transformer being bad but my wiring or the fuse amp size.

Anybody have any ideas? Greatly appreciated!

This sounds exactly like a transformer problem .. this has been reported several times.

The general rule of thumb is not to extend the white wires. There have been a few people to do it successfully.

I would think that, that could be some of the problem.

Oh no, I didn't extend the white wires at all..I extended the black/red wires.

But if the local store's transformers blow..where the hell do I find good transformers?

Sure its not the Fuse amp adapter problem?

Nope, no dimming circuit..so if its definitely not a fuse amp problem then should I just keep cycling through until I get a good transformer? lol

ICEMAN
I apologize for the continued problems you are having. To be quite honest either people have zero issues like myself when I used our Cold Cathodes, or multiple issues with transformer problems. There seems to be no method to the madness with the problems. We will continue to stand behind our products and ship you a replacement if you would like. I would like to extend to you a 15% off coupon which I will PM you.

Perhaps it will help you upgrade to an LED Product. I might suggest looking at our new Tri-Chip Super Flexible LED Strip which we have just released on our web site. They are 12V ready so no transformer and have wires ready to go to +/- for your car's electrical system.

Let me know if you have further questions.

Sincerely,

Wow thanks! I had actually called about half an hour ago and one of your representatives was nice enough to send me a replacement with an extra in case it happens again. I hope this doesn't happen again, if it does I'll go with the flexible LED lights..which means more money wasted on stupid lighting

Read my thread. http://www.oznium.com/forum/topic20829

This happened to 2 out of the 2 cathodes I bought for my interior. The only one that hasnt blown yet is my trunk. Most likely because it is rarely opened?

I would like to purchase 2 more for my rear but I dont know if its worth the hassle at this point. I have all my wiring very clean and tucked away and its a pain to pull it all out to change the transformer. Would be more of a nightmare if its under the seat.

This has actually happened to me like 3 times now I wanna say. Do you know if I could use an extra CCFL Circle transformer to power my two 12" Cathodes?
