We decided to end up going home last night around 10. We packed up, and I was happy and **** at the same time, I was happy to go home and see everybody again, but I was **** due to the fact where i was tired and I hated the kid in the car. Just about to fall asleep he decided to wake me up. I told him this was going to be a long ride if this is gunna happen. Okay..we got all the way up to Oaklahoma where the car started lock up and shake. Really didn't think of it any, until our stop in Missouri to get gas. As soon as we left the gas station, the transmission dropped. ****. We ended up pushing it to the side of the road and waiting for damn near an hour. It really passed the time when my girlfriend was freaking out on how I won't be able to come home. I told her I can't promise her anything but I'll try to be home tomorrow night. A little while later she freaked out again. (I don't care that she freaked out, its just part of the story) Shes the only one that kept on head on straight. So all in all it was a pretty long day. but on the good side where in a hotel and we get free breakfast in the morning which is in 7 hours. I might get some sleep but I don't know. I'll give you guys a update in the morning. Where hoping to get the car fixed tomorrow its just the transmission where calling in tomorrow to see whats up. So my question is about how long would replacing a transmission take?

Thats just a rant, if your going to just complain oh how is that a long day, don't bother posting. or if you want post your day.

Depends on the car and if the transmission is available.. I guess 4-6 hours depending on what other damage has been done..

Ryu, Can take a few hours and if the car was having a tranny problem they should of had you or someone else ride it down the bed because more thne likely it would not have park... be glad they did not flatbed the car and flatten it out before securing the rear... your car woulda ran into the headache bar (Bar Protects the cab of truck) and thats never any fun.

Good call on the bus.

Bad call on taking an 'insecure' car across such a long journey. Next time get a mechanic to check before.. Things like Oil, Tire pressure, if the transmission is secure, etc. Definitely less drama for you and those involved.

PS: Your story sounded like the beginning of a possible sequel to Vacancy, Vacancy II. Two friends who don't like each other, road trip, broken car, middle of no where hotel. Just rang a bell. Get Dakota Fanning to play the angry girlfriend and you've got 30M opening weekend. Just a though.

Sorry about the car though. Glad you saw some good scenery otherwise.

Thanks, ever since I got back they've been **** and moaning that I left. Thats the reason why I did leave. icon_biggrin.gif I know it was pretty awesome. I didn't get to stop much. I fell asleep in a St. Paul bus station and almost missed my bus. The kids jeep we took he said he checked it out. He is not the best kid with cars, and he went to school for that. WTF right.

Glad you made it home safe tho man! Good choice on getting on the bus! Not worth the fuss if people are complaining...

Something along the lines... I checked everything out of my car.. looked it over... the bearing wasn't even grinding at this point...

Well about 600 miles in I hearing a whinning coming from the rear... next thing I know...
my 95 m3 wheel bearing came out driving from tn to cali in the desert... thank god for AAA...

My **** rim/tire/whole rear assembly went bouncing ;/ I was sad... minor damage to the rear and a scrap on my bumper...

Was the longest 3 hours I spent on the side of the road listening to the radio with my car on a jack... ;(
