Got a friend that is wanting a decent sub/amp setup. He listens to mostly hip-hop/rap but also some general rock-n-roll. As far as SPL/SQL, he will lean more towards ther performance aspect of things than the quality.

He has given me a budget yet as he is getting ready to move into a new apartment and has a few things to buy for that. For the sake of giving a price, lets say he has a budget in the $250 to $350 range. In this we will have to include amp install kit and materials for a box.

What you guys got for suggestions? What's the most bang for the buck?

All help greatly appreciated.

Is he installing this himself or paying someone else to install it?

That is a tight budget, it might be an option to wait awhile until the funds increase...

I understand that, but I know it can be done. I paid around that for mine and I love the way it sounds. I have a Pioneer 12" in homemade box running off a profile amp.

Granite I bought my stuff a long time ago.

well for the budget, a decent sub AND amp isn't within reason

i would take that money and do one of two things

1. Save more
2. Upgrade the speaker/tweeters in the car

Dunno what he has. But my 2 10" pioneer premiere shallow's hit pretty good. Enough to knock my mirror off my window and such.

And for 2 of those, boxes, and a 600w Cadence amp was under $350

If $300 isn't enough, then someone put together me a decent system cheap so I can tell my friend how much he is going to need. Just telling me to save more doesn't help. Plus, if he knows what to buy now, then maybe he can do some shopping and find the best deal on the product.

i just put in 2 10's for probably 300 if he were to put it in himself.

2 channel Crunch amp 500w
2 Pioneer subs that were like $35 each
good 8 guage wire kit.

I made the box myself too so i deffinately suggest that then trying to find 1 prefabbed.

got it all from sonicelectronix cept for the box parts

truth is you get what you pay for, unless some deal comes around

you CAN take the money to walmart and get a system, amp for 150 and sub for 150, then some wiring kit for 70

Sorry I've been busy lately with school or I would have replied earlier:

Try and find a solid amp around $150-200 with steady output at low ohms (1 ohm or less stable is a must), then put $100 into the speakers (get something that will be equivalent to your load...1 DVC2, 2 DVC4, etc)

Hifonics, Autotek, Crunch (the older stuff is really solid), MTX (sometimes). Pick something that looks like it will meld well with the car.

You are going to find the most bang for buck by reducing quantity of speakers. Go for 1 solid 15" over 2 10s or 2 12s.

For the sub choice, look @ lower end lines of Ascendant Audio, FI Audio, or maybe even Mach 5.

If I was spending $300 on a system right now, I would get a used 1000RMS @ 1ohm for like $100 off ebay/forums or something (Hifonics BX1000D or the likes) then get a Mach5 IXL 15 ( http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/store/products/Mach5Audio-IXL%252d15.2.2.html# )

But thats just me icon_redface.gif now back to pg 33 of my lab report about the spectrophotometric determination of the pKa of Neutral Red indicator

*editted bcz I suck @ linking apparently*

Hmm. I just saw on Cl a rockford fosgate punch amp, 1000W x 2 ohms for only $100.

Craigslist can be an awesome place for systems but I cannot say myself if I would trust half of the people on there.
