Well for the past 4 years ive been keeping my change. I almost never use the change in my pocket and when I get home I put it in my change sorter and dispence them into there coffee can, always sorted.

Ive had them in my closet and today I decided I'd get them out and snap a pic before I cash it all in. Not sure what im gonna do with the money, probably gonna get a saving acct with it since I can not grow interest in my closet lol.

Only thing I use the change for is when I wash my cars. I just grab a handfull of quarters and go. and Ill probly keep the red can which is not full.

2 Full quarters, 1 full dime, 1 full nickel 1 can full thats sorted with the paper sleves and 1 huge jug full of pennies. And I still have one more can of quarters that I left at my mom and dads when I moved out and never went and got.

User posted image

Now the fun part.. I would like for everyone to take a guess as to how much you think I have here. No prize or anything just for fun.
Im hoping to cash these in within a few days and ill post the final count after I do. And Im not going to coinstar, im going to have my bank count them. Coinstar takes 8% while my bank wont take a penny =)

Im gonna say 1657.73, and besides the sorted change I have no idea what amount is in the other cans.

Check with your local banks up here we have banks with CoinStar like machines that do not have a fee. You just pour in your change and get a slip and the deposit the total in your account.

Check out all your options at banks too, might be able to find something that will net you more money that a savings account.

A while back, I opened up a checking account with e*trade online, because I got an interest rate comparable to that of a savings account, plus I have full access at all times to my money.

Most banks will do it for free if you have an account with them. If they don't, get a new bank ( or Credit Union as I prefer ).

Most banks in this area don't let you walk in with buckets of change. Unless you are talking about the Coinstar change counter like machines. I know my bank requires you to roll them and put your account number on each roll. I would not want to hand over a bucket of change to my bank. I trust them, but who know they could easily mix change with another or mistake my bucket for yours. I would have no idea how much I gained/lost.

You are a very dedicated saver icon_smile.gif

I have a change bucket that counts it as you put it in, I busted $100 a month ago and had to go cash it in biglaugh.gif

It's back up to $40 currently after a month, not bad.

I'm going to toss out $1597.84

You live in the ghetto? Every bank here has a change machine, I have 3 bank accounts at different banks and all 3 count and sort change for you when you bring it in, free of charge.

The places around here have a machine that looks like a Coinstar and you do it yourself in the lobby. Get the slip and give your account number #. The only places that do are credit unions and one bank that was built within the last month.

All the Supermarkets in my town have a bank branch in them or the same strip mall, but have the Coinstar machine. Why would people who could get a service for free pay a fee?

I was in line behind a guy the other day who did not label his rolled change and it was a big deal so clearly my local small town branch (5) banks does not have that service. Maybe it's a regional thing.

Could be. They have the coin stars at the grocery stores as well that charge something like 12%. Some people are stupid and don't do research, just like idiots that pay 3 times as much for a new car as they need to because they are too dumb to do their own research.

When I did it last time the machine was in a room all its own and A teller, supervisor and me were present and if I felt the money was not counted properly I could just take it all back as they have to empty the machine each time and they showed me it was empty. Ive been in alot of banks and never have seen one out in the open.
Hell a few of the credit union branches you dont even see the people... new security thing there all behind the wall and there is no doors to the lobby and you talk/view them on a tv while your standing at your station, everything is passed via tube like the drive through.

I had a tall Coke bottle a few years back -- it stood about 3 ft high. It held xlose to 1200.

I'm guessing you have $986.28

Finally got around to cashing in my coins Friday. Hour and a half at the bank, 6 full bins in the machine, a few machine jams and over 10,000 coins later heres the breakdown.

Quarters- 5029 coins - 1257.25
Dimes- 4654 coins - 465.30
Nickles- 2538- 126.90
Pennies- Just 12.. They snuck in I did not try to cash any pennies after an hour and a half I was done.

Grand Total- 1849.57 cents.
And I still have all the pennies and a 1/2 can of quarters left, bank closed before I could get done.

With nearly 10,000 quarters and dimes, what do you suppose the chances are that there were some of them minted before 1965?

(Those contained a substantial amount of actual SILVER, and are worth considerably more than face value)
