I was never really satisfied with the glow in my door handles or speaker coves using the traditional 5mm LED. After having a look at the door handle glow on an 08 Cadillac CTS, I decided to give the super small PLCC-2 LEDs from Oz a shot.

First let me say, these **** are small!!!! Thankfully i had a "helping hand" solder station to help me or i would have burned my fingers off. This is how small we're talking:

I'm VERY impressed with the brightness. and the price is awesome too. Their insanely low profile and wide viewing angle makes them perfect for my application....so here we go:

I soldered "leads" onto them like a traditional LED, drilled (2) 1/16" holes on the mounting surface, ran the leads through and secured them with a drop of hot glue.

For the door handles each LED is getting it's own resistor. I'm using a 1/2w 68 ohm to protect against power surges when houston gets it's annual 2 hours of cold weather biglaugh.gif

And the test shots:

Now to figure out the best way to put them in the speaker coves......

hey just makin sure, these are what you used right? http://www.oznium.com/plcc-2

Also, is wiring these up any different than normal LEDs? I might have a few uses for something this small if they are easy to use.

Thanks!

yup those are the ones. They function just like regular LEDs except there are no leads on them. I highly reccomed a precision soldering tip for this project.

Indeed. I, for some reason, thought that was the power wire and didn't care to think about the wires going to the bottom of the pictures.

Thanks.
