Ok. Gunna sell my old ass bimmer and thinking about buying a colbalt. Why? Because they are cheap and pretty decent cars. I am using mine as a winter car and a daily. Keepin the neon as a toy. Question for you guys is. Anything I should look out for on these cars. This is the one I am looking at. Link

I'd rather have an auto but the sticks are cheaper. My budget is 7 grand. I'd rather not go over that. And I want low miles. Under 50k. I am tired of replacing **** all the time on old ass high mile cars. I don't need to be fast or for it to be a ferrari. Just a beater remember. What goes out fast on these? Anything all the balt guys are replacing? Any body have friends that have one that comment on them?

Also looking at this one. Link!

Any info or such you can give me would be greatly appricated.

Thanks.

Can't afford that. Payment on a 6k-7k car is 120s to 140s. Plus insurance will be more on the honda most likely.

WAY too many miles. I want under 50k miles. The balt only has 40k. That is a 2 door. Balt is a 4. Balt is 4 years newer.

Still ain't happenin babe lol. Balt is a much better deal imo. Hondas may run for ever but parts wear out. Newer car = win.

True, those motors last a while. But with old age comes thing like suspensions, transmission, cooling systems. I also have to do more maintance like timing belts, etc. Not what I am looking for.

That's what I worry about, and why I'm leaning for the G6. I want something better than a Cavalier.

Is Cobalt such a long word that you have to call it a Balt? That's the dumbest sounding nickname I've ever heard.

How long do you need this to be reliable for.. if you are looking for a daily driver junker, why go with something so expensive? A beater typically falls in the few thousand dollar category and is typically not available at a dealership... I hate to say it, but these things take a beating and keep on ticking (even though I hate Ford), but look for an early to mid 90's Ford Escort. Who cares if it has 150k miles on it.. you get it for $2,000 or less, and have $5,000 to spare, and they typically don't require much maintenance.. when it breaks down to the point where it needs something like a new tranny, or something extremely expensive, sell it to a junkyard and buy another Ford Escort. The Cobalt isn't going to hold it's value... I mean hell, you're looking at a 4 year old car with 34k miles on it for $7k.. in a few years it will be worth 3k, so you'll lose $4k on it in 2 years vs $2k if you get rid of the escort in 2 years.

My buddy needed a beater vehicle to drive to work every day for the military (He lived 80 miles or so from where the military stationed him). He bought a beater 1990 Ford Escort with like 180k miles for $700. He drove that 160 miles round trip 5 days per week for a few months, and then started parking it at a train station up there and would take the train back and forth. After 6 months, he brought it back home and used it every night for paper routes, carrying up to 2,000 lbs of news papers (Especially on Sundays). That car last him like 2-3 years before anything major went wrong with it, and he beat the hell out of it. 365 days a year paper routes.. there are no vacations for newspaper delivery.. and that car did it daily. I think when it finally died it was the clutch that went out, which wasn't too expensive to get fixed should he choose to, but he figured he got his money out of it, and sold it to a junk yard place for like $350.. so the car cost him in total $350 plus a few oil changes (which I'm sure he didn't keep up with either). It wasn't the prettiest thing to look at, but damn.. $350 for a car that gets you around that much for 2-3 years straight? That's 40-60 years of driving for $7,000 should you get that same deal every time.. granted it won't always happen that way.

Just my 2 cents =) Put your money into the car you love to drive, and get a beater that's reliable for commuting.

Sorry but it's the truth ... Can't touch a USA made car for that or have the warranty...
I've been laid off of two jobs both US auto related , only owned us cars 14 years in the steel industry to no job in a day ... follow that with 5 years in machinery building to be laid off...
We havebeen buying the son cars till we decided he has to get this one , with his mickey d's pay the Kia was all he could afford
