I noticed one of my subs was hitting weird. I took it out to see if anything looked wrong. When I put it back, one of the screw holes got stripped. If I push the face of the sub in a little, it sounds fine. As soon as i let go it sounds really bad. Kind of like a loud slap instead of deep bass. The subs are Kicker L7's. I tried putting a bigger screw and it didn't work. Is it the stripped hole making it sound like that or just the sub?

From what you described, I would say the stripped hole is making it sound bad.

Try to seal up the hole for the screw. Since the hole for the screw is stripped air might be leaking in which would effect the proformance of the sub.

Put some liquid nails and sawdust into the hole then let it sit overnight , then redrill the hole

Or pull all the screws out, rotate the sub a little, and put all new holes into the box. Once all the screws are pulling the sub down, the foam gasket on the back of the sub will seal up the old holes. |

Well that's convenient. I just assumed they were round like most subs. |

I'm about to try the sawdust thing. Would it also work if I make the hole on the sub a little bit bigger and use a bigger screw?

There are threaded metal inserts that go into the wood and hold a screw. This way you can insert and remove the screw as many times as you want and it won't strip out. *EDIT* Like these, Tee Nuts: http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDe...3655-37672-883046&lpage=none |

I've fixed NUMEROUS subs the way I suggested. Mix fine sawdust with liquid nails and force as muchas you can in the hole and let it set overnight then run the screw in it

Those go on the INSIDE of the box. So you'll have screw head, sub basket, wood, and tee nut. Use whichever method you want (tee nut or sawdust w/ liquid nail). Just providing options for you. |

Thanks Guys. I already have the sawdust and liquid nails in the hole. I'm gonna wait till tomorrow and try it. If it doesn't work, I'll go with the tee nut.

I got everything nice and tight and it's still making the noise. I was thinking it might be a part of a board that came loose. Can I use liquid nails or wood glue and go over every corner on the inside?

You can use it to seal , but if the boards are loose you need to add screws ect to hold it
Have you tried swapping subs from one location to the other ??? If the sound/noise follows the sub it might be a sub trouble /// If the noise stays then it might be a box issue |
