Maybe the Javascript? Try disabling JS in IE and see if it locks up.

Either that or tell your dad to switch to Firefox. Download it, uninstall IE, and rename the Firefox shortcut "Internet Explorer."

well, so i went through alot of the coding... more or less just started at the top... and removed things i wasnt using... there was some unused java still in there, thinking that was causin the issue but it wasnt. i ending up taking out the Iframe i use for the Cutenews (php) script on the main page, and it started working fine with IE8 after that. any ideas or work arounds? im kinda stumped.

Put the PHP script on the homepage, wrap the displayed portion with a <div></div>, and using CSS give it a fixed height and overflow: scroll;

HTML
<div class="scrolling-content"><?PHP include("path/to/show_news.php"); ?></div>

CSS
.scrolling-content { height: 300px; overflow: scroll;}

Your show_news.php is outputting HORRIBLE code. Each time it outputs a news item, it forgets to close like 2-3 different <div> elements. It's also repeating <style> information for no reason.

Just edit the Cutenews template that displays the news. Get rid of all the divs, just use the {news} {author} tags that CuteNews uses and a few <p> tags. You can apply styling to the <p> tags by doing...

Code:
<p class="author">{author}</p>
