I need help sound proofing my car.
how can i go about doing this?

right now my car is the opposite of sound proof. =)
and i have subwoofers in the back, would sound proofing the car affect the sound inside the car.

if it does would it sound better or worse?

Dynamat will eliminate rattles and prevent sound from radiating as bad ...Properly done you can barely hear it outside the car

Other things to check that can rattle ...
Liscense Plate ...
Spoilers/Wings ...
Taillights/Back up lights...
Rear bumpers...
Those you'll need to diagnose on a one by one basis ...
I had to remove my taillights and make rubber "washers" where the taillights mount , Then made another set inside to put behind the nuts tighten those down and quiet
Same goes for spoilers/wings
Liscense plates might need dynamatted behind the plate and all four screw holes used...

I used a ton of this stuff: http://www.edesignaudio.com/index.php?cPath=1_24

The blue paint on deadening for low frequency (bass / rattles) - The butyl mat will also work.
The eDead v4 - TekLite FOAM for high frequency (road noise)

Experience at a car show in Cleveland this weekend ... They had cruisers outside the entrance, They had preprinted copies of the law given to people ticketed .... Several people looked it up on the internet on their phones ... One lady was cited with her stock stereo (220 watts)
Since any Amp over 20 watts is illegal can they prosecute the stereo shops for selling "Contraband" ???

I would honestly have to see a law before I believe you. There can be (and there are many of them) a city ordinance on how loud a stereo is, but I highly doubt there's anything on 20W that would pertain to stock. I would go as far as saying that EVERY new car (and nearly all old cars) have more than 20W from the factory. That's only 5W per channel (if you assume 4 channels).

I even did a couple quick google searches and there were no results.

Well tell the three/four people at the show that recieved tickets icon_rolleyes.gif
Two of them with "stock" stereo's ... I'm sure the intent is to get the "Thumpers" that you can hear blocks away , but as this was a show people were cranking things up rolling in and they had cruisers just waiting for you ... Unsure if it's a "noise ordinance" or if it's in the vehicle law... Someone showed me it on their blackberry ... 1ST offense $150 fine plus court costs ( I'd guess $300 total) 2ND Offense $500 fine plus court costs , 30 day jail time , possible equipment confiscation
They handed folks copy's of the "newly" instituted law icon_rolleyes.gif

I'm sure it's at the Judges discretion , OR they give you "probation" and if you reappear for it they will give you time

Sounds like a noise violation to me (which I said exist). I've yet to see anything on the 20W BS.

I questioned a Cleveland PD officer , He explained it as If you can hear the vehicles music from 50ft away (or approximately 1 telephone post away) it's in violation of the law ...
I then countered "what about the Harleys with no exhaust" as if on cue a chopper rumbles by ,
He said "Those are ok as it is not music" icon_rolleyes.gif

You can dispute the "Cleveland" deal all you want. I was there. They were having a DB Drag competition when the PO PO arived. The two people that were in line had their drivers license taken away even before they turned their systems on. The officer looked inside seeing their amps and speakers. He said they were over the 20 watt law and the equipment was contraband. I talked to a lady from Kent Ohio, who works in Cleveland. She has already recieved a ticket for playing her stock radio above the limit.

They CANNOT give you a Fing ticket for a stock stereo.

Drag that out in court and turn it into a circus.

Yes you can. In Florida its 25 ft, just because you have a stock stereo doesn't mean it can't be listened to annoyingly and hence unlawfully loud.

Just another way for them to scam people out of their money.

I think he means you can not get a ticket for being over powered on this mysterious "max power law" with a stock radio.

Last time I checked, stock things are exempt from laws.

Getting a ticket for something that is stock is ridiculous.

I should have filmed it, but the police were being very difficult. For me, I have around 1200 watts of power, a bluetooth system through my Avic, plus no front license plate. A cellphone, texting, and any form of cell use in your car is also illegal in Cleveland. I don't live there, don't like it there' plus now even more reasons not to go there.

even on a lot of these newer cars that have BOSE radio systems already built in.
they arent THAT loud.
