I have aftermarmarket door mirrors on my chevy astro. These mirrors have 6 LEDs in each one. 4 white and 2 blue. Three wires in each mirror. One for ground, two for hot. I currently have my alarm status indicator wired to the blue LEDs.

I'm wondering if I can wire the meteor output to the other LEDs in the mirrors. I know there are 3 sections of 4 LEDs in the meteor stick. Would it harm the controller if I did not use 1 section?

Another question is, can I still use the ground wire that are on the mirrors. Will there be any harm with the meteor controller output sharing the same ground wire as the alarm status indicator?

I only have one meteor right now and even though I have two more coming, I don't really want to blow this one up.

Should I possibly use a diode on the ground wires to make sure of no feedback or whatever. Or is that not a good idea?

Any help is appreciated

and thanks

Not sure if I clarified. The meteor controller will be on a separate power and have it's own switch

It will not hurt the controller if 1 section is not used....

You can still use the ground as long as the ground on the mirror is not what controls the led in the mirror (i.e. common positive with 3 grounds that control stuff)....

The ground wire should not matter...as long as it is grounded that is all it serves for....unless like above with the common positive in which having 2 "hot" wires (1 for the white and 1 for the blue) it should not be common positive..In other words the ground should be fine.....

Also if you are not going to use the LED's as they were designed then just cut the wires going to them and wire them into the meteor how you want them....but if you plan on still using them as turn signal lights as well as hooked up to the meteor then you probably will need a diode to make sure there is no feedback....

Hmmm.. Thanks for that.

Just wired 2 LEDs up to the controller, following Chris's cup holder instructions. Found out that the blue wire is a common hot. The other 3 wires are grounds.

Not sure if I can do this. Brain isn't working again.

The mirror wiring is as:

white = white LEDs
blue = blue LEDs
black = ground

The meteor output is:

Blue = positive
red, yellow, black = positive.

The mirrors have a common ground, the black wire. Since the ground wire from the alarm indicator is wired to this wire, I do not think I can put the blue wire from the meteor on this wire.

I may have to disconnect the alarm indicator.

Well I tried to get them wired to the white LEDs, but something was wrong on the circuit board. The blues would work, but white would not.

I've stripped the circuit board down to nothing (even took the traces off). I'm replacing the LEDs with 3mm ones and using the resistors that came with the LEDs.

Trying to finish up the driver's side now. Hell to do with a 15 month old and a lazy wife
