So I have a good friend who is just finishing up building a bridge over his pond and would like to add lights that would illuminate the pond and surrounding.
There is a 1" overhang on both sides of the supports. Looking for suggestions? |

They may be visible slightly if you are sitting low enough, but putting floods under the middle would mean that the light would not go out wider than the bridge. |

what would be AWESOME would be to make small holes along the outer edge and use those clear holes and put LEDS underneath it! so they shine up and make the path visable ;) Like landing lights ;) Then of course put a dimmer on it so they can set the mood ;) heheh
Then maybe put a couple small leds around the water fall in the RGB setup with a slow color fade ;) |

That's not a pond, it's a puddle.
Take a router and put a groove in the bottom. Install some silicon encased LED strips. |

waterproof strips on the inside of the main beams pointing sideways... this will let some of the light shine through the cracks in the planks.

Does the lighting have to be under/on the bridge itself ? If the options were bridge-only, and no modifications to the bridge would be made, I'd say an LED module under the bridge itself and strips alone the outer edge, possibly angled out at 45 degrees . A piece of vertical molding along the edge of the 'lip' of the bridge sides would be huge here to keep from seeing source, but you'll probably see the individual LEDs reflecting pretty clearly off the surface of the water anyway .
What about those outdoor LED spotlights that you often see mounted on a sort of stalk with the solar chargers on top ? A few units in that style installed around the edge of the pond illuminating toward the center, or just the 360 degree style like this. Or warm white solar path lights leading from the house to the pound, and surrounding the pond in the same style to illuminate the setting, but then a vivid single-color LED source on the pond/bridge itself for contrast ? Don't rule out submersible lights in the pound aiming up at the bridge and reeds either, but I guess that presents more problems with masking source . What are you leaning toward right now ? |

I just recently installed two of the green Rectangular Superflux channel lights under my dock facing down.
cool!http://www.oznium.com/superflux-boat-leds/photos the above photo is not far off from the actual brightness of the lights above the water, but I will post some pics tonight of my own install to show brightness of the green. I'm going to buy two more green and four blue and put them on a selector switch so I can switch back and forth between the two colors. I'm also considering putting some sort of remote switch, probably the one Phil sells here (because it is tight son!) and set them to slowly fade between the two colors...would look awesome I think. My dock is about 20' long and only 3' wide as it is attached longways along a seawall as a sorta loading/fishing dock. Just two of these in green light up almost the entire length of the dock...they are SUPER bright. To keep them hidden, I just cut an equal length of pressure treated 1"x1" (enough to be able to screw the lights down on each side with #4 SS screws) and attached them to the underside of the outside brace so that the lights sit flush to the bottom of the dock. This way, the light beam covers the whole area around the dock and not just underneath. What's best about these lights for this use is that I was able to easily attach them to my existing low-voltage landscape lighting so they come on at dusk and turn off at dawn along with my landscape lights! Saaaa....weeet! |
