the key is in the "on" position? I was originally gonna run them to a switch but for some reason the light in the switch stays on when the led's are off. Is that normal and if so will that light drain my battery overnight? I'm 99% positive I've got it wired correctly because when I switch the 2 that aren't the 12v source it blows the fuse every time. So, because I'm worried about that light draining my battery overnight I was wondering how I might go about making the led's come on when the key is in the on position? I've searched 36 pages on the forum and none of the topic titles reflect my question as they are too vague. All and any help is appreciated and thanks in advance!

Not sure but if I recall correctly can't you use the Cig. lighter without having a key in the ignition at all which would make that a constant 12v source...correct?

Well you don't say WHAT car you have .... 99% of newer cars turn them off with the key as they are more used to power GPS/Sat radios/radar detectors ect ect ...
Wild suggestion go try it icon_wink.gif

If the cig lights doesn't work, you can always try another fused outlet that comes on/off with the car. That's what I did with my radar detector.

It sounds like you have two of your terminals wrong, the 12volt wire and the accessory wire on your switch should be reversed. Also, the reason you're blowing the fuse is because when you switch the two terminals that are not a 12volt source, one of them is a ground and you're creating a dead short.

Did you wire your switch like this?

I figured out what the problem was as my brother had originally hooked it up the wrong way you described above. However, when it was hooked up right the light on the switch was still staying on when the led's were off and vice verse. No blown fuses either so I took the switch back got another of the same brand with the same prong set-up and it works correctly now. Led's on...switch light on...Led's off...switch light off. They just gave me a straight exchange and chunked the faulty one in the trash. Thanks for responding though!
