You will be a lot happier with LED strips....I had cathodes and they lasted for a while, but I always worried about someone riding with me and their feet hitting the cathodes....The LED strips do not spread the light out, but the 10" piranha bars are awesome and they are only $9 per tube...I recently switched from 2 cathodes under each side to the piranha bars and they are a more true color than the cathodes and I don't have to worry about them breaking....

Piranha Bars FTW man... Get them. It is also MUCH easier to mount, you can extend them without any transformers as long as you want, the are bright instantly instead of waiting for them to warm up, and they don't get hot at all obviously. |

Cathodes= nice even glow ... Cathodes are GLASS and can break if jarred or hit , you mentioned the transformers, The Transformers are supposed to have been taken care of ...
They are harder to mount as you cannot extend the white wires that run from the transformer to the cathodes (or you have to buy a second transformer to allow the proper mounting) LED's are more flexible , easier to hide thinner ect , allow mounting anywhere just extend wires they do have some hot spots , very sturdy long life ... I've got one pirabha bar and it lights the entire rear of the vehicle |
