I am wondering how to wire a Lighted LED switch that has a source pin, a load pin, and an earth pin (ground) to a 5 pin relay to turn off and on a blinking LED. The way the relay works now is that when the car is off, the LED blinks. When the car is started, the LED will turn off. The relay is currently wired as follows: 87a goes to the blinking LED's positive wire. 86 goes to - side of blinking LED and a wire to the ground. 85 goes to fuse for on/off with ignition. pin 30 goes to a contant power fuse connection.

I'm guessing simulated alarm LED the way it's wired now is perfect as it turns off with ignition ...
Why do you want a switch ???

Then insert a regular switch in the + line of the LED to kill it ...

I realy like the light LED if I could find how to wire it. The other way you suggest is possible with the switch I have but it won't light. Do you know how to wire the light switch?

Try mapping that one with another relay. I'll give it a shot!

the easy way to make a blinking fake alarm is to buy a blinking led like this:

http://www.superbrightleds.com/leds.htm#blink

Add a resistor, then wire the positive side to constant 12volt power and the negative side to switched ignition power. The light will only blink when the ignition is in the off position. A switch can be installed on either wire. A relay is really not needed.

No offence Dude, but he already has a blinking l.e.d. that pretty much functions just as that one. icon_confused.gif It seems as though he wants to add a lighted l.e.d. switch to have control over it and that it would remain lit whenever the blinking l.e.d. is on. The problem with trying to wire a lighted switch to that circuit,is that the l.e.d. on the switch would blink in unison with the flashing l.e.d. icon_neutral.gif This is why another solution needs to be found to stop that from happening. He might be able to wire in a small capacitor to take care of this issue. icon_confused.gif

Here are the fake alarms that I have been building. Just a simple blinking led with resistor. The positive side goes to constant 12 volt power and the negative lead goes to ignition power. When key is on, both leads have +12 volt so the led does not blink. With ignition off, the led can ground on the negative side so the led will blink.

A switch (lighted or not) could be installed on the positive lead.

I plan to order some blinking red-blue leds for my next batch of these... The one above is just a red blinking led.

None of you have come up with the wiring of my existing relay and switch. One of the guys was right with wiring the LED switch to light. When you do that it pulsates with the LEDs' brinking.
Can't someone come up with a wiring solution to light the switch without pulsing?

Add a second relay take the constant power that feeds your 30 , run that to the 87a (normally closed) and out the new relays 30 ..ground 86...constant 12 to your led switch ,feed that to the 85 terminal , ground the proper lead on the switch ...
flipping the switch will energize the relay killing the power to the flashing LED

Try wiring the lighted switch between pin 30 on the relay and the constant power. This will kill the relay and the light.

What is the relay for?

bad venge,
I am following your suggestion to add another relay. I just had a little problem with your description. I add a second relay take the constant power that feeds your 30 , run that to the 87a (normally closed) and out the new relays 30 ..I will ground 86 pin, Is that run the wire from 30 to + side of switch. THEN WHAT!!! feed WHAT wire to the 85 terminal , and then ground the the other lead on the switch ...
flipping the switch will energize the relay killing the power to the flashing LED

Feed CONSTANT Power to YOUR switch then from the OUTPUT of your switch to the 85 terminal (COIL) Ground 86 (other side of Coil) , and ground the lug on your switch

You know, I was just thinking. Are you assuming that the switch was a 2 pin. It is a 3 pin, one for load, one for ground, and one for source!! Does that make a difference in the hook up!!!

The blinky led gets turned on by the ignition power going from positive with key on to a negative when key is off.

I took a relay and blinker led, wired them together as OP has. I found the relay opening and closing as the same rate as the blinking LED.

Maybe the 1st relay is wired wrong, or unless you are blinking other lights (park lights), you really don't need any relays at all... A relay draws more power (130 mA) than the led (20mA) you are driving it with! You might find your fake alarm drains the battery way too fast with relays. Losing the relay will cut power consumption by 80%.

Just hook the blinking led to ignition power and other lead to constant power with the switch in between.

Strange way to wire up a relay. Please explain how the relay triggers light with nothing hooked to the N/O output.

He stated it was working in his OP .. I never looked at that he just wanted the kill switch icon_lol.gif
When the IGNITION is ON it pulls in the relay opening the N/C contact= No light
Ignition OFF coil drops out = Light on

When I tested the above... the relay doesn't turn on and off with the key since the ground circuit for the relay coil is only complete when the LED is lite (10 milliseconds)...

The relay turns on and off with EVERY blink of the LED. That is why the switch with indicator LED will blink.

Oh well It's fun to play with relays icon_redface.gif ... To me it would look DUMB to have a lighted switch ON at all times WITH the blinky LED ...
If that was the case eliminate both relays and flip the switch every time you get out of the car icon_rolleyes.gif
