I don't know much about them but from I heard that would be a good starter bike.

An older 900 probably makes about the same power as a current 600, so it's not terrible as far as speed. The thing I'd worry about is size and weight. A 900 is a bigger bike, and older sport bikes aren't exactly known for being sleek and light-weight.
For the price (and likely the condition) it'd be a good starter bike because you wouldn't feel as bad abusing it occasionally. But it's better to stick with smaller CC for a starting bike. And for the love of huge manatees, please take an MSF beginner's riding course. |

Yeah you might want to check into your insurance before you buy a 900 also. There's usually a break if you get a 600 or less

I hate to say it but buy an older cruiser bike ... if you drop it less damage ect handles/grips and turn signal stalks are CHEAP
when you get good riding then get a crotch rocket of your choice (them plastics are PRICEY) Those 250 rebels can be had for $600/$800 and under 2000 miles , ride it a year and sell it for that much next year or get the GF to start riding it with you ... I went this route and the rebel I bought is on it's 6th owner (last I heard) and it's getting the same $$$ I sold it for |

I thought the same thing , Wife loves to ride , doesn't like to shift , so she's got a restored Hondamatic , A suzuki automatic , and a couple of Scooters
A GREAT beginner bike is the older Kawasaki 454LTD bulletproof and will hang with bigger bikes and not too small that you'll outgrow be bored in a year |
