Are these 5050 LEDs? If not what kind of LED do they use?

that would be correct........
we use the 50-50 LED as it is a 'tri-chip' LED
so there is a Red/Green/Blue Diode
so that doesn't mean the RGB is brighter than a single color necesarily

Well it depends on the LED, the 3528 / 5050 is just a package size, and they can all be different brightnesses depending on the number of chips etc,'mmmm bananas

5050 is an RGB LED, 3528 is not. They're also different sizes.

Well 5050 package size is also available in single color.

5050 means the dimensions are approx 5mm x 5mm

3528 means the dimensions are approx 3.5mm x 2.8mm

So is there a big difference in getting the ribbon LED strips in 5050 or 3528?

Ok no offense at all, but what is the obsession here? lol

There's no "choice" over which LED size you get. You get 3528 if you order a single color strip, and you get 5050 if you order an RGB strip.

Get data from the other source to compare the actual light output. As Phil has said, technically the numbers are just the size of the LED housing, not anything to do with power output or chipset.

Agreed. Package size has NOTHING to do with brightness, efficiency, or any other factors.

One of the few things package size has a big impact on is how easy they are to mount and heat dissipation.
