I am just about to start another saltwater fish tank and I am going with a 3 gallon Pico tank. Anywase my question is I want to buy 2 10" piranha bars, 1 white and 1 blue. I want to start with a blue then cut it and add a small white strip and but it and add a blue strip, etc. Is there a good diagram that I can look at to see how to do this?

I think he wants to take the blue bar. Cut it in half. And add a section of white in the middle.

Well kinda, I want to cut both the white and blue bars in pieces and re-connect them back. So you will have 2-3 blue LED's then 2-3 white LED's and so on.

These strips are easy (if you can solder) to join together, but they no longer selling them in colors and sizes you want.

I want the brightest I can get. I would just do the single LED's but I dont really want to mess with that. Are the flexible as brite as the piranha's?

The piranha bars use superflux LED's, where as the flexible ones use surface mount LED's....they are about as bright, but for what you want to do I would go with the thin waterproof ribbon LED strips ( http://www.oznium.com/thin-waterproof-ribbon just like what byte said)...they can be cut and re-soldered to your liking and that way you do not buy a strip in a tube and have to take it out, waterproof it, and then cut it to your liking...and they are very bright...

Someone correct me if I'm wrong here, but I'm pretty sure you have to take note to the voltages and current between colors.
Mixing colors may not always work. For example the superflux white and blue (in the Piranha bars) happen to be the same. So it should work to cut them up and alternate. Check out the specs, http://www.oznium.com/four-chip-led |

The strips have the resistors buit in so as long as you cut them in sections of 3 led, you will be fine. |

After a long review I think I have made up my mind. Since the tank I am wanting to light up is only 11.5" long and 8-ish deep. I am going to get some http://www.oznium.com/prewired-superflux They are water proof and cheaper. Plus I would only need like 3-4 of them then just wire them up and there I go. If anyone would have a better Idea let me know.

Why not desolder the LEDs from the bar and resolder the white in instead of cutting ???
