i have an 05 gmc envoy. i want to install EL neon wire in the cup holders and add led lights to my passenger's side foot well. i really don't know much about wiring. ive already bought the el wire and the 1" x 1.5" ultra slim led, from oznuim, that i plan on installing
question numero uno: how can i install the el neon wire to turn on only at night? are there more ways to do this other than splicing them to the parking lights? (i have auto-on headlamps if that helps) 2. can i splice into my existing driver's side foot well light to power the passenger's side led? |

To answer your second question. Yes you can. I had 20 superflux led's in my doorpanels that were spliced into my stock footwell lights.
You could always try to do a add-a-fuse into your gauge cluster lighting. So when your guages lite up, your EL would turn on. |

EL wire in the cupholders is NOT that bright (I tried it ) EL wire is hard to secure in a smooth way as well , I used fishing line and tiny holes and lassoed the EL wire every 3/4" ... I went to a couple LED's and much happier with the results

yeah thanks but thats y i mentioned that ive already bought the items. what im looking for is solutions. no harm no foul tho.
in reality though im only in a bind with 1 of the cup holders. here's y, the cup holder closest to me has a lip on it where i can glue the wire. the problem is with my other 1. the surface of the walls in the cup holder are completely smooth. its as though im goin to hav 2 carve a groove out of it or do wut the bad venge suggested with the fishing line. that sounds like a total bia though. ill do what i hav 2 but wanna avoid takin that route im hoping for good ideas on how do this install. any takers????? if u think u can help with wut i am workin with, please do! Like I mentioned , you drill a tiny hole , then loop around the EL glo with fishing line , then i used a small piece of stiff wire to tie it off around , tighten it up then repeat ... It's the EASIEST way to do EL glo , it's FAR neater then glueing as superglue can tear up many automotive plastics , You also have to run the power thru a larger hole to start it , then run the ring to the end and secure it there ...
If it was me I'd use the EL glo for something else , around the gauge cluster , radio, HVAC and use the LED's in the cupholders Also you can tap into the dimming line on the radio or the gauge cluster or the illumination light for the cigarrette lighter to power this that way they will come on when the headlights are on and will dim to mimic the interior light |
