Ok well you all know my car has its problems. I just changed out the timing chain after 17000 miles becasue it slipped. Well i changed plugs to, BEFORE the guy was done working on it, so in the process he had tried to start it severall time and it smelled flooded. Well it runs today but, it run fine until you hotrod it. Like say when im going down the road, and i floor it, it runs fine until it goes to shift. When it shifts it pops/backfires once. Only time it does it when im on it. And when im in park, then rev it, it kinda misses. Is this caused by fouled plugs? Like i said it runs great when im driving normal, then when i hotrod it, it backfires when shifting. Oh i also am running 93 octane in it right now. First 93 tank in about 7 months. THanks guys

1 Running 93 on a motor tuned for 87 will decrease your efficiency and you will probably lose power.

2 In park, you are probably seeing your rev limiter.

3 Did you even bother to pull a plug (any plug) and check to see how they look?

4 Have you checked for any OBD codes?

It actually made it run better, in park it's when it tries to rev, haven't had time to pull any plugs, and it has no codes..

You can have codes that don't throw a CEL BTW.

If the timing belt slipped, did you retime everything? If your timing is off you can get PTV contact and screw up a lot of expensive parts.

Yeah the timing chain slipped. Put in all new timing chain, cover, gaskets, all that, put it back in time, or close to it. It didnt start doing this until i started to run 93 octane through it. The mechanic said tat my car times itself? didnt sound right but whatever..And i can smell quite a bit of gas when idling.

I'd recheck the timing ... Sounds like it's a few teeth off , thus detonation

I'm with venge. The car will most likely SLIGHTLY adjust the spark for knocking. It won't adjust timing.

Finally ended up taking it to the dealership. I had them put the tech II on there...couldnt find anything wrong. Even while missing! Anyways my timing was 13 degrees retard , my plugs were gapped a little off, my MAF connector was dirty, my engine block ground was coroded and almost off, my distributor wasnt put back in correctly. So they fixed and cleaned all of it. In the end of taking it to the shop, it cost me $51.78. I guess its good to be known throught the whole place. icon_cool.gif
