Hello fellow mod enthusiasts! Quick question (mainly because I need sleepy time) in regards to putting in a bunch of LEDs.

I just ordered a set of 4 9" LED tubes for a total of 72 LEDs which will be wired to their own switch. Not only that, but I just ordered 4 pre-wired superflux 4-chip LEDs which will also be wired to their own switch.

My question is, how close to overdoing it am I if I have all of these LEDs tapped into my cigarette adapter wiring? I already know I'll need a 3 amp fuse for the 4 individual LEDs and a 10 amp fuse for the 4 tubes.

I'm worried I won't be able to use my cigarette adapter for anything else or I'll only be able to have one set of lights on at a time.

use a relay and run a new power wire... that way ur sure u can handel it...

i have over 800 LEDs in my car from underglow to strips and superflux. just run them thru relays.

Relays? Eesh...I wanted to try and avoid running through the firewall if possible. Plus I don't know about relays at all, but I guess it can't be too hard right?

The fuse you choose should be based of the wire gauge you're using. With those fuses you should be running 20 and 24awg wire.

Use an Add-A-Circuit to tap into your fuse box. Avoid wiring to the cigarette lighter where possible. And using the fuse box will prevent running wires through the firewall (which, btw, is not that difficult).

Anyone have anything against using a fuse tap instead of the add-a-circuit.

Fuse Taps are OK BUT they can get resistive and cause heat troubles with higher current draws ... Also you need to add a fuse to the line still and that can be awkward to hide under the dash and hard to access for replacement ... While the Add a circuit is an all in one unit

Ah, ok. I was sure the simplicity of the fuse taps meant that there must have been some sort of drawback. Plus I found the add a circuit at my local auto parts store so I think i'll get that because I don't have to worry about shipping.

-edit-
I just picked up the add-a-circuit but now I'm not sure which fuse that I need to use. I looked in the manual of my xD and found the fuses and what they are, but the cigarette adapter has a 15 amp fuse. Is that too much for the 76 LEDs? Or do I need to add in a 10 amp fuse after the add a circuit?
