Too high of wattages and improper mounting can cause melting ... Properly done they are no troubles ...

Alot of regular headlight housings arent made for HID's and they dont direct the light right. None the less, if u put in higher wattage bulbs both HID and non you can melt the housings that they are in.
do yourself a favor an hop on a GMC Jimmy forum and look to see if others have done it as well and see the results. |

HIDs run cooler than standard halogen bulbs.

HIDs run cooler but at ignition they burn in a lot hotter than standard 35W or 55W halogens. Over the course of time they can melt a plastic housing. If you drill a hole in the back of the housing where the housing sits in the engine bay it will vent the excess heat out and help prevent melting.

One must also remember how as cars get newer the manufacturers get cheeper and skim more and more, plastic get thinner, vents appear few and afar between and dual filament bulbs are used.
The thing is with the cost being what it is, I'd sooner suggest getting the bi-xenon retro-fit kit off ebay (the one with color halo option) than recommend anybody goto ebay projector housings with hid kits with most being H3's with the WORST optics (I know, I've owned a few sets)... |

Sidenote After market HIDS love to mess with the radio, they can cause alot of static.. something to keep in mind if you listen to the radio alot.
