Switch with indicator light that won't indicate

I wired a rocker switch with a built-in indicator light to control a 12VDC relay. The switch works and the relay works, but the indicator light doesn't. It is attached to a proper ground. I then realized that the switch was rated for 100-125VAC. Is this why the light doesn't work and is there a solution outside of using a 12VDC switch?

TIA

I guess I assumed wrongly that there was an LED inside. Thanks!

VERY few use LED's as for the huge resistor that would be needed the bulbs are more likely

Not really, most newer rocker switches use l.e.d.s just like the lighted rocker switches sold on here. icon_wink.gif

Sounds like the switch is wired improperly. icon_confused.gif The lighted rocker should have three wires, how do you have your switch wired?

Is it like this?

Yes, like the diagram, except the switch is controlling the trigger going to the relay.

^^Hmm...it should work then. icon_confused.gif Maybe you just have a faulty indicator light? <<Sometimes it happens. icon_neutral.gif

Yes, it's possible. Considering the price, very possible. I'll try another and if that doesn't work, I'll buy one rated for 12VDC from Oznium. Thanks much.

Just tried another one and it didn't work. I don't know much about l.e.d.s, but would there be a different resistor in the switch to make the indicator function at 120VAC than one to work at 12VDC? The switch looks almost exactly like the one you had a link to. Here's an internal wiring diagram of the switch I have.

Just checked the spec sheet for the switch and it turns out that the indicator is a neon bulb. Probably a whole different ball game. icon_confused.gif

Hmm...well maybe that's why it's not lighting. icon_confused.gif Just a guess, but since you're using it on a 12 volt circuit,it may not be enough voltage to light the neon bulb. icon_neutral.gif

Yeah pretty much.lol icon_lol.gif

The Oznium rockers and others are also rated for ac like the switch he was describing too and their l.e.d. indicators work fine. I just wasn't sure as to what type of light was in his switch and come to find out it's a neon bulb. icon_wink.gif
