Was out riding yesterday... it was about 65 degrees and Sunny. Just a gorgeous day, and probably the last one of the season.

Anyways, the guy behind me ended up lowsiding into the ditch. He went in first, hitting the "driveway"... then the bike hit him, and flipped up onto the driveway.

His major was a broken femhur (mid break) which got him a new rod and 4 screws. Couple other things like minor rash, torn tendon, etc.

Gear saved his life.

They took him out of the ditch, into an ambulance, down about two blocks to a baseball field where they medevac'd him to the hospital.

The first picture, I was standing on the driveway looking down. The bike was to my left 110 degrees.

Dang, that's rough. Hope he makes a full recover.

I hate to ask, but was he being stupid? I know **** happens sometimes...but wondering if he was weaving in and out and being silly.

Definition of stupid is relative. Some people think just getting on a motorcycle is stupid.

We were riding hard. I had been riding since 9am that day, and he had just met up with us around 4pm. He was right behind me, which was a poor position to be in with cold tires.

All though, it doesn't minimize the fact that it was rider error 100%. Plain and simple, he came in too hot.

We took our annual fall colors ride ... Left at 8AM to a balmy 37 degrees ... Left with 88 bikes and lost about 20+ per stop ... (I'm too cold , Ect ) Final stop was just four bikes (and me/wife were on the way home) up to a whopping 45 degrees... Lost 2 bikes along the way due to breakdowns ... I think this was the first group ride this year without an incedent (luckily ours were not near that bad)

That's crazy, we just had a fall colors ride this past weekend. Where are you at?

For us, it's not really an official or annual event or anything, kind of just a last minute deal. 30 bikes. No cops, no tickets, no accidents.

I'm on Ohio ... Figures it's going to be near 70 Wednesday we sure can't get a break on the weather puppy_dog_eyes.gif If it would have been 70 and sunny I'm sure we'd have topped our record... Our biggest ride was last year (covered bridge tour) with 150 leaving ...
We do "informal" rides all the time , post up on the forum , "I'm going to _____ Leaving here at ______ If you want to tag along post up or PM , those can get 6 /60 riders

I've never been in a situation where emergency personnel were actually needed to be called. My friends have gone down bad enough for it, but I've never been on that particular ride. Or it was a traffic accident unrelated to shenanigans.

That's why you wear gear, though. And practice, and know your limits. I'm sure the guy will be back on a bike as soon as he can, and maybe a little smarter about it.

it'll buff out

but really its good to see he is ok, as i had a friend die over the summer on his bike. I can't even drive down the road anymore. Just gives everyone a reminder on how fragile life is, and respect the bike and the road as they are both *****. My dad always told me that when riding a bike the only thing you and the road is god and he dont give a damn and i think its true.

Yeah, same here. I've been down twice. Once I was hit by a van, and required an Ambulance ride. Once I had the bike lowside on me at 50mph when I touched the yellow paint, all though, I was able to get up and ride another 200 miles that day.

SickWitIt wrote:

He's in the Army, so his medical coverage is great. He also has full motorcycle coverage.

No. Why do you ask?

Har, har, har. By the time I entered this corner, I didn't see any of the other 9 bikes behind me. I was doing about 110 through the corner. He told the paramedics he was doing about 80, which is about right according to the rider behind him.

Being a biker myself. I hate to see or hear about bike accidents. I'm up here in WI & the weather was almost 70° so I went to another town about 1.25 hours away. On the way there the road was blocked. Deer & motorcycle accident is what the cop said. On the way back they were still there so I would assume it was a fatality.
When you're riding think of yourself & your families & what everyone will be going through.

The ambulance ride was a traffic accident unrelated to shenanigans. I have never crashed my bike because I was pushing the limits, being stupid, or screwing around.
