I just got my 1 Watt LED's in the mail the other day which I ordered for my A/C Vents because the one 5mm LED that I have in each one is not bright enough. upon testing them with a 12 volt sourse, after just a few seconds I realized the 1 watter got pretty damn hot..
so is it supposed to do that??? wont it melt through something for example if i place it on the plastic surfance behind my A/C vents??? any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance. |

These are NOT meant to run DIRECTLY on 12 volts (you do realize that ) you need to hook up 4 in series on 12 volts

can you draw me a diagram.. sorry i'm not undurstanding what you mean in series... do you mean I need to have 4 of these things linked to eachother and then connect one end to a 12v pos and then ground?

Yea unfortunately these ones are probably burnt out now from too much voltage. Venge is right, you'll need to wire 4 of them in series so that each one gets 3.5 volts. You might also need thermal management like a heatsink for them so they don't overheat. Or if you don't want to deal with all this, consider the pre-wired 12 volt ones which are already in an aluminum case: http://www.oznium.com/high-intensity-led-floodlight
If those are out of budget, I'd try two of the pre-wired superflux in each vent: http://www.oznium.com/prewired-superflux Finally, please accept my apologies for the hassle. I know you're anxious to get the lights installed. Click this link for a $10 coupon which you can apply to your next order: http://www.oznium.com/promo/9OF8CW |

cool, thanks phil.. now as far as heat sink is that to place under the 1 watt high power LED or is it to encase the wires that lead to and from it....
also, would I be able to just place something metal underneith the led its self before mounting it. like maybe a quarter or something similar? it will be out of sight so I wouldnt be seen anyway. oh and is it heat sink? or heat shrink? |

Heat SINK ... it's used to draw away the heat from the LED
