well some of u guys saw the thread where i showed off my new toy for the winter. well this thread will be kind of a progress thread as i work on the truck.
New info: -as you guys may have read in the last thread the truck was said to have a bad transfer case, well the transfer case is fine. the rear end however is a different story,
the stuff that came out of the diff.
so now i have kicked my caprice out of my garage stall and swapping out the rear of the s-10
truck is sitting on jack stands too along as cinder blocks
Things to come: -going to install LED type trailer lights -pulling out all of the carpet and interior panels and the inside of the truck is going to get covered in bed liner -some rust repair. more pics here http://s257.photobucket.com/albums/hh212/ChevyCaprice9C1/s10/ will try to update this thread as work continues |

I can smell it now. Ugh! I hate gear oil.
I went through a couple sets of gears in my Ranger, not hard to do...but can be a ***** if you don't get them shimmed up correctly

Ehh, it might take you a day to put new gears if you've never done it before. It's not hard. Just make sure you shim right so they don't whine.

yeah its a chevy 10 bolt with a 3.42 ratio. for a new ring and pinion it is 150 from jegs but i also need new bearings, seals and shims along with a few other little thing in total about 250 bucks in parts. i just check a local scrap yard and they have 3 rear ends that will fit it may just do that.
yeah the whole truck is kind of a rust bucket only paid 400 for it. the cab is in pretty bad shape needs new rockers which i have for the truck will post some pics later |

For future reference, if you are going to use cinder blocks, I suggest not orienting them the way you did to hold the trunk up. Especially putting weight where you are putting it. It is one of the weakest directions of a cinder block.
Orient them the right way, and stack 2 and use some wood if need be. |
