I started to add some LED lights to another truck (1995 Chev 1500 4x4 6.5L Turbo Diesel).
Last night I mounted the foot well lights and tonight I changed the door lights over to LED. I used waterproof ribbon strip and a 3mm red for each door. The 194 dummy connector from a dome light kit works great so it just plugs into the old socket. http://www.oznium.com/dummy-bulbs It looks way better in person as you see all 7 leds, not just a blue glow.
The reflection on the side of the truck is what it looks like in person
I am very happy the way it turned out. Now I have to redo the doors in my other pickup ;( |

Hey Byte, was just wondering what LEDs you used under the dash of your truck? I've got a 1996 Chevy 3/4 ton Extended cab and was looking to add some lights under the dash and was wondering what you used and how bright they were. I see you used blue but since my truck is maroon I think I'm gonna use red. Plus I'm thinking about using the strobe and dimmer unit as well. Let me know okay, Thanks. And your truck looks great and I love the door lights, I have never thought of that.

Very nice, I did the same with my car. I used 4 single 5mm LEDs in a row.

For the 1995 truck above, I used the blue flex waterproof ribbon strip (about 4 feet)... and they are very bright. http://www.oznium.com/thin-waterproof-ribbon They need to be dimmed if left on at night while driving -- hook into the dash light fuse in the cab and they will dim with the dash lights Look at my gallery for my 2002 truck as it is done in red. The red truck I used the SMD bar (20 inches each side) ... These are very bright as well, but I doubt you will need the dimmer for red. The chev/GMC trucks have very little room under the glove compartments, so a very thin strip is needed. If you want bright glow-- then go with another color than red. I like the red because I can leave them on while I drive so I can see inside the cab without glare off the side windows like the blue. http://www.oznium.com/smd-bar |
