A 1' tube makes a great engine bay light. It can be spliced directly into the front-tube wiring if UFO is fitted or can be powered up in standalone mode via a switch if not.

Most hoods have internal reinforcing braces that can be drilled to accept the tie-wrap bases. Of course you still have to drill very carefully so as not to dent the top surface accidentaly when the drill breaks through!

My car had soundproofing to contend with, which made it hard to mount the tie-wrap bases but at least it was useful for hiding the cable run afterwards. Two drillholes, screws and tie-wraps later...

The cable was taken down into the engine bay alongside the water pipe for the windscreen washer jets. From here I routed it to the front of the car to join it to the UFO front tube. At a convenient point near the battery I cut the original cable in order to splice in the new one:

On the right is the cable going back to the UFO ECU twisted-up witht the wires coming from the new 1' tube. On the left is the cable going to the UFO front tube (this is also twisted-up with the wires feeding my headlight tubes).

I like to solder the joints and use adhesive-lined heat-shrink sleeving to insulate them afterwards. Alternatively you can use terminal block & insulating tape. Here are the wires sleeved and in the process of being joined:

Once they are heat-shrunk, the ahesive in the tubing melts forming a waterproof seal around each joint. Nice!

OK, all tidied up out of sight and on with the Lights icon_biggrin.gif

Yes, although they're not exactly inside the headlights - it's a pair of 1' toobs hidden in behind the front bumper shining up into the headlight glass.

Lucky to have enough room in bumper for that. I would have to use GEMs to achive same effect.

That gives very similar results and is dead easy to do. I'll try & dig out some photo's.

Here ya go:

Those lenses are hooj - so he fitted a GEM at each end. They are hot-melt glued in place on top of the glass envelope, hidden under the metalwork.

Looks nice...I would have to drill in the bottom of my headlight and have them point towards the headlight itself.
