Here are the tools to buy an official flip flop trunk kit:
www.flipfloptrunk.com

Here are the tools to do it yourself:
-triangular hinges
-a drill
-4 screws (should come w/ the hinges)
-the tool to take the screws out of your trunk
-a second person to help you with the trunk
-something to hold the weight of the trunk (see step 10)

Read these instructions first before you try something:
1. Once you pop your trunk, there are brackets that hold the trunk lid to the car.
2. On these brackets are 4 screws, 2 on the left & 2 one the right.
3. Get the second person ready, you're gonna need to take out those 4 screws
& take the trunk lid completely off.
4. Take the hinge & put the hinge part on top of the bracket & mark the hole
(that's on the hinge) on the BACK side of the bracket. I could only get 1 screw there but you may be able
to get both crews there.
5. Don't drill the holes all the way through. Just drill enough to get a small hole on the front side (where you put the factory screws in, so the back side would be the flat part that goes against your trunk lid).
6. Get the second person to help you put the trunk lid back on the brackets &
hold the trunk while you get the FACTORY screws back in the front side of the
brakets.
7. Take the hinge & press it against the inside trunk lid & mark the holes
from the hinge onto the inside trunk lid.
8. Drill your holes,(AGAIN NOT ALL THE WAY THROUGH) & screw in the hinge
to the inside trunk lid.
9. Take out the factory bolts to make it open like a flip flop trunk or leave them in to make it open like a regular trunk.
10. Now just fold your trunk to where it looks level & put the wood (or
whatever you used) on the ledge at the bottom of the back window, & the other end between the trunk lock & the filler piece on the inside of the trunk.

Note: You might need to extend the wires so that you get the whole flop effect and I didn't think this up, I saw it on another website, but it has been deleted, or it might be down right now. Here's the link to give deserving credit www.v6z24.com/howto/fliptrunk . I've been meaning to do this, but I've been lazy and I need to find a second person so I won't mess up my trunk lid by dropping it[img][/img]

Since we're on the topic... It's a little bit different to do this mod to a first-generation Dodge Neon, there is a little cutting involved. In case anyone with a Neon is interested in this tho, you can find a how-to on it HERE.

Haha... I think the term "Flip-Flop" originally came from the ability to place the trunk lid in several differnet positions with the advent of this mod is all. icon_lol.gif

Lord knows who coined the phrase, but it's apparently stuck... haha.

Hehe... yea, second-gen's aren't the same icon_sad.gif . I'm not sure exactly how you do it there. Basically, tho you would just have to figure out where your trunk bolts down to those little metal arms that allow it to swing back down. Disconnect the trunk lid from those arms and reconnect the trunk lid in whatever crazy position you want. Typically, this is only something that is done once you get to the show and you put it back to factory before leaving the show & driving off.

Also, as is the case on the first-gen... some cutting and modification to the trunk lid and/or metal arms may be necessary. I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to figure out tho after staring at your trunk for 15 minutes icon_smile.gif .

It largely depends on your vehicle and how it's trunk / trunk lid is designed. However, on some vehicles... yes, you can leave this as a permanent mod.

I am thinking about doing this very soon, I alreayd took a peak at my trunk and it looks pretty easy to accomplish but I also want to figure a way to make it not do this and the way i am thinking about is just puting the stock screws back in temperarily. Good idea?

and for the rest sorry to bring up an old post, and you should calm down about that anyways.

Not very hard besides bending the hinges the wrong direction and then having to bend it the right direction. Then while having to drill holes into the metal with a keyless chuck drill the drill bit keep getting stuck. Then once we got them drilled one of the screws decided to break off inside the hole. Then we had to drill that out with a titanium bit cause the screw was stainless steel.

Overall I would say it was pretty easy and took like an hour to an hour and a half. The second hinge went quite smootly cause we laerned our mistakes form the first hinge install.
