well, most of you guys have heard me say that neons are completely legal in ohio, but apparently i've been driving around illegally for the past 2 yrs (as well as every other teenager in the county, lol). here's the story:

I had decided to go to Mt. Vernon to cruise (about 30 minutes away), rather than Coshocton cuz i hadn't been down there yet this summer. well, i drive around for about an hour or so and decide that it was boring as hell, so i stopped in a dark parking lot along the main drag, with all my lights on (which i had been driving around with on also) and played some PS2. around midnight, i decided i would go home and started out. when i pulled out of the parking lot i immediately came to a stop light (which i stopped at icon_rolleyes.gif ). a county sheriff turned right at the light (towards me), looked at me as he went past but kept driving. the light turns green for me and i start drivin. just as you're leaving the city, there is another light and then about 100 yards past that it changes from a 35 mph zone to 55. as i get through the light (which was green when i got to it), i started to speed up. i was at about 45 or so when i got to the 55 mph sign. about 150 yards later i pass a Statie, i didn't think anything of it until i saw him whip it into a drive way and turn around. about 30 seconds later he's on my ass (his lights aren't on) and stays there for another 30 seconds. finally he turns his lights on and pulls me over. i didn't really think i had been going that fast, so i automatically assumed it was for the lights. he ended up giving me a warning for 48 icon_confused.gif in a 35 and lights (neon). i asked him about the lights and this is what he said:

If the tube is visible its illegal (includes washer nozzle LEDs)
Anything flashing is illegal
Any lights what-so-ever in the interior are illegal

he also said that the highway patrol is really particular about blue (since all of mine are blue), and that that was the main reason for pulling me over. i'm gonna trust that what he said is correct (since he's a Statie and all), but i still don't understand how i have driven with blue lights on for the past 2 yrs and never had any problems. i've even driven past Statie's in Coshocton and never had a problem. i'm thinking that if i hadn't of been speeding, he wouldn't of really cared. anyways, sorry for the loooooonnnnnggggg post...

damn dude, no neons on at all? i just found out thats the same law here in IL. but i live in plainfield, which is ALL subdivision, not country icon_eek.gif . but there are cops here that will u pull u over for stupid ****, like goin 7 mph over the limit, not stopping completely, and just bein ****. two months ago, judge threw out ALL of plainfields traffic tickets b/c there were so many, for so many petty/uselss reasons. so yeah, **** *** to drive here. but, i've had my interior neons on all the time when i drive, and they're dual cathodes, so thats fawkin bright. i dont drive with my UB's on unless im off of a main road. and i've passed cops with my interior's on, and i havnt gotten pulled over. goodluck bobby, cuz gettin pulled over for havin glow, in my eyes, is a stupid **** law. icon_rolleyes.gif

So underbody kits are legal? As long as you can't see the tube? That's cool...

That sucks that you cant have interior lights. The laws around here say that you can have any lights you want as long as the bulbs are not showing, but you cant have green or red lights anywhere cuz they are illegal.

Ohio Laws:

http://onlinedocs.andersonpublishing.com/oh/lpExt.dll?f=templates&fn=main-h.htm&cp=PORC

I didn't see anything in the Motor Vehicle Equipment section which would forbid neons, or STEADY blue lights, just flashing or rotating lights of ANY color.

I didn't spend much time on it, though, becuase I don't live in Ohio. You might want to give it a closer look.

Interior lights are often forbidden because it makes seeing out of some of your windows hard as ****. I know when my cathodes & lightnings are on, I can't see out of my back window worth ****.

^^^ see i don't usually drive out in the country with my interiors on (due to the cathode on my sunroof which is right in my face), but i was just leaving the town and there were still street lights along the road which kind of difused the interior light a little. anyways...

your right, i read through all of the lighting regulations and didn't see anything that absolutely mentioned a steady blue light as being illegal. these are about the only two sections that MIGHT include them however:

§ 4513.17. Number of lights permitted; direction of beam; flashing, oscillating or rotating lights. wrote:
(A) Whenever a motor vehicle equipped with headlights also is equipped with any auxiliary lights or spotlight or any other light on the front thereof projecting a beam of an intensity greater than three hundred candle power, not more than a total of five of any such lights on the front of a vehicle shall be lighted at any one time when the vehicle is upon a highway.

(B) Any lighted light or illuminating device upon a motor vehicle, other than headlights, spotlights, signal lights, or auxiliary driving lights, that projects a beam of light of an intensity greater than three hundred candle power, shall be so directed that no part of the beam will strike the level of the roadway on which the vehicle stands at a distance of more than seventy-five feet from the vehicle.

When I was driving through missouri on the way back from memphis...I had to flip my HU down because it was too bright, I also dimmed the dash lights (stock).

Highways without lights suck...especially when they are bumpy as all hell.

i was recently up at the local meijers (anyone heard of it? i think its just in like michigan and indiana, maybe ohio) anyway, there were about 4 cars and we were all sittin in the back corner of the lot, i was the only one with any neons, so i stuck out like a sore thumb, (and now with my strobes in my grill its even worse), after about a 1/2 hour, a city cop, pulls up and gets out of his car, he asked whos truck it was and i said it was mine. he continues to tell my that if he sees my truck try and drive away with the lights on he will give me a ticket, then says that i cant have any lights in my interior, that the license plate bolts are illegal, and that the strobes could get me a impersonating a police officer charge (sound familiar pork)
at least he was cool about it, he made us leave though he said we were soliciting
