hi, i am pretty new to this whole lighting thing, was wondering if anyone out there could answer my question.
i currently have 10 lights in my car, built a custom switch box, and most of the wires are just connected either by male-female conductors or barrier strips. all the light wires meet underneath my drivers side seat. let me tell you its quite messy. i dont know a way to clean it up, im scared of electrical fire. are transformers the piece that can hold all the wires? (better yet if i can get a tutorial or explanation of the use) if not a transformer what should i use to make all my wires cleaner and organized (other then cable ties) any support or help would be helpful. |

dude a tranformer is a electrical component...
now by the sounds of things, under your seat is a war zone right? SoOOoo we must either zip-tie OR use convoluted tubing...i cant think of any other way to clean up wires then those two. oh ya pics are always welcome! FYI: My bud thinks that twisting the wire and putting electrical tape on the joint is fine...DONT DO THAT!! learn how to solder!... |

Down in Texas our electrical taping doesn't last long due to the extreme heat so I have started using liquid electrical tape, and that stuff is awesome beside the 10 minute wait to dry but it works perfect. If you solder things together it wil be very hard for someone to accidently pull apart or even just fall apart.

if you make a good solder connection you shouldnt need added strength...

Solder should always be covered though, not just left in the open
Also, all connections should be waterproofed and sealed to prevent accidental grounding. Post a photo and we might be able to better assist you. |

I feel dumb now... =P
Nothing a little patience, and some troubleshooting. I got most of the wires undercontrol now. I just grouped the power wires I need to each switch with cable ties, then I cable-tied all the grounds. It looks nice and clean now. I am considering soldering I'll look into it later. Maybe I'll get some pictures up of my glow soon =) Need to find a night im not busy and take some pictures. |
