id look for one good 10 or 12 inch sub and amp according. its better to have one good sub for space and cost. u can get a sub/amp/wiring w/o for about $400. can u make a box urself? if so then ur ahead of the game...

Yeah, i got two kicker 12's, 350 amp, wireing kit, and box for $400. You should be able to get something pretty good with $100 more.

kicker compVR or alpine typeR... either one really... they are somewhat comparable.
The CVR should get louder until you hit somewhere around 600-800 watts... depends on the install. Either one would be a good way to go. Also - dont count out the adire shiva and tempest... www.adireaudio.com |

Check out a company called Resonant Engineering www.reaudio.com I just got one of their low end RE series subs and it is amazing. The price is awesome too. They're a little upstart company that's well known in competition circles. They make a very tough/overbuilt product that sounds great.
Check out the RE10. It wants ~200watts RMS and is about $60-$70 shipped. Two of those should suit you nice. If you do want to blow your hair around you could step up to the SE series (600W $150) but that may squeeze the budget a bit As for amps, USacoustics, hifonics, or alpine are some good ones for price and quality... there are many others as well |

I created a set up for a kid here that had $500 to spend on a box, sub, amp, and underbody. He has now has a diamond CM2 12" sub with a coustic 400 watt amp, wireing kit, box, and SG GS, with some money to spare. The diamond and the coustic hit pretty decent. Better than i had thought it would.
by the way **** SONY. |

Less power just means its more effecient. It depends on things like what its made out of and what it sounds like to determine if its any good. |

Let's not forget about a capacitor. When you get all that stuff installed. Check your headlights and see if they dim when the bass hits. If it does you'll need a capacitor. 500watt = 1/2 farad 1000watts = 1 farad. Check ebay for rockford. They got good capacitors. I'm looking for one right now and ebay has them for about $90 after s/h for a 1 farad. If you go anywhere else you'll pay about $150 for 1 farad. But if your lights don't dim, then don't worry about the capacitor.

using a cap to fix light dimming is just a jerry-rig fix. If that happens you should really upgrade your grounds and alternator.
A cap really helps most with transient responce from your mids and highs. A cap discharges too fast to help with a sustained bass hit... but its perfect for supplying power for a quick sharp change in the music. |

batcaps are different :-P its a battery and cap. but still batcaps dont really help to much from what ive seen. they actually lose you a couple tenths from things ive read. meh. |
