While i was at bestbuy today, i noticed a display that looked similar to an iceled kit. turns out its made by tireflys? they claim it does 100,000 colors or something. Anyone know anything about this kit?

Also I went to Suncoast Video today and found this dvd called "
Neon Tuners" Basically its all about neon, theres some really nice cars in there including a van with over 3000 leds.

Yeah, the TireFly's kit is pretty cool, but it's done with like one-foot sticks of tube. So it's not really practical. You have to buy like two kits to get a nice full underbody.

The TireFly's color morphics kit has a evil little pricing method. $460 for a controller and TWO 1 foot tubes. That is not a kit icon_evil.gif

For 14 feet of tube and a controller, it will be around $940! sleeping.gif

So the Tirefly underbody is to Iceled as Lite Glow is to Streetglow in a sense. icon_confused.gif

Heck no! why would would i want to buy a bunch of sticks to light up the sides and front or I can just buy on big on that will cover it all and have no gaps like I saw in the movie animations. Some of the features are kinda cool but I think ICE has the beat even with less colors if they can prove it. How can you even count 14 million colors out of 16.7 cause thats all they said they could count before loosing count. Over all i think ICELED is a better deal and ICE has more than just a bunch of ! footers to connect and creat gaps.

He my bro works at BestBuy so he could get them dirt cheap but why would I care enough to get it when Ice would be so much better. Lets just list what add-on light fixtures you can get vs the ones the Tirflys has

ICE:
UFO
Gem
Flood
Spot
Expansion
Zen
1ft tubes
2ft tubes
3ft tubes
4ft tubes
6in Tron tubes
Wheel Well kit
Rough Gem
Zap
and more to come says Adrian.
Never stops

TireFlys:
6 stick Colormorphics starter system
4 stick Colormorphics starter system
2 stick Colormorphics starter system
10in stick
extension cables.
any more to come, i don't know i can't talk to the creator like i can with ICE.

My hobby is lighting and anything lighting is my hobby especially LED stuff and otehr high tech lighting like bigger and better DJ lighting then what I have. Why can't i just give out my 2 cents, is it a crime to have nothing to do cause you have no hours at work so your paycheck can only pay bills and bar;y anything else? well well........weeell shut up about it. Maybe there is other issues around me being on Oznium than just what you think or maybe its none of your business either way i am still throwing in my 2 cents for those who want it and if you don't then tough.

The 6 bar light package is around $430, and with my bro's BestBuy discount it is only $230. but 6 10 in bars can only cover one side of my car so i wwould need to buy four packages of 6 and that would be a grand total of $920 without taxes. More expensive than ICE even with a big discount and its not nearly as fancy. One color per bar only, versus one color per 3 LEDs. and $60 for individual sticks isn't gonna help either, well at least i don't htink cause we didn't check the prices on the individual sticks with a BestBuy employee discount. So either way with or without an Employee discount it is still way too expensive. However, I did play with the display they had it looks kinda cool but not going to happen cause I can get something better and cheaper, funny how that is.

As quoted off their site:

"the first and only digital car lighting system of its kind. With innovative LED technology, dazzling displays of color, and remote-controlled programmable chases, animation and combinations, ColorMorphics offers a variety of lighting options never before available."

The first and only....hahaha! what morons. have the not heard of ICELED??? they are so behind the times...lol!

here is their reply to my nasty e-mail to them:

Dear Sir –

Please note that all public statements we make are carefully run past our legal department. Not to start a flame war, but the statement does not say that it is the first LED undercar lighting system. Even with the ICELED® system (of which we are well aware) we still state that it is the “first and only digital car lighting system of its kind.” Even right now, there is a long list of functions that the ICELED® and EVERY OTHER system available on the market, simply cannot do, of which the ColorMorphics® system does.

(Message continues)

The ColorMorphics® system is also more than just a lighting system – it is a complete show control system that has been approximately 5 years in the making. We realize that you have your choice in aftermarket products for your vehicle – every product in the market is aimed at a particular target audience and the research we have done defined certain aspects of the system, some of which you may appreciate, some of which you may not. Either way, it is a free market economy, and although we would appreciate you purchasing our product over someone else’s, we would rather you be happy with your purchase overall, irregardless of the vendor you choose.

I would challenge you to place a complete ColorMorphics® system beside an ICELED® system and compare the results – there are certain functions that one system can do and another not – this would perhaps be the best method of making your choice. If you are strictly choosing a system on price alone, then that is also a valid option. We are not forcing you to purchase any particular system.

If you are looking for higher pixellation, then perhaps the ICELED® system is what your’re looking for. The ColorMorphics kit is based on patented technology that has been in the marketplace for over 9 years now. We are licensees of part of that technology. Other technology we “created” ourselves.

In the end, we gladly accept all comments, constructive or not, and allow the end user to make their choice based on the information available.

If there is anything else we can assist you with, please let us know.

If you find a distributor in the USA of the ICELED® product, please let us know that as well.

Thanks,

The Tireflys Team.

By saying "of its kind" they are correct in their ad.

They could say, were the first to use these individual light stick system.

The response from Tireflys was so good “It’s a free market economy”. I have some experience with these guys in the industry and I have some experience with the ColorMorphics kit. To summarize, ICELED is still the Cadillac of lighting systems, hands down. ColorMorphics is a complete waste of time.

Some choice points from the Tireflys guy:
“ColorMorphics has been approximately five years in the making.” Um, Tireflys as a COMPANY has been around for three years. So who’s smoking crack. Also, if it took you FIVE years, why haven’t you figured out the waterproofing? No joke. These pix are from a car after the kit stopped working.

Hint to Tireflys: it rains in NJ.

Then comes the 16 million colors. I think I know how they’re getting this, but it’s pretty misleading. There’s a few geeks here at ICELED who will understand, so if you do, help me out. Most computer monitors have 8 bits (255 choices) for Red, Green, and Blue. If you multiply 255*255*255 you get around 16 million. ColorMorphics probably has 255 choices for each of the three color channels, but there’s no way it goes through all 16 million color combinations with that “dial-a-color” remote. If you’re mathematically inclined, you’d know that to get the whole 16 million color palette, you’d have to adjust red and green and blue INDEPENDENTLY. That knob doesn’t let you do that: it just goes through the color of the rainbow starting at red and ending at purple (then comes white). So if you’re at red, you can’t adjust green and then blue at the same time to have, for example, 75% red, 10% green, and 100% blue. If you would want to suffer through this insanity with their awkward remote control knob, you’d have 16 million colors, but that’s not what you get. It’s probably around 2000 colors. Why would you want all of the dim colors, anyway?

I suspect if Best Buy says this or allows this on their packaging, they’re going to find out they made a big mistake (http://www.geek.com/news/geeknews/2002Aug/bpd20020829016101.htm).

OK, well, keep on rockin’ in the free market economy.

Jarrett –

We have been batting the idea of a longer bar around for quite some time. Every time we look at doing it, it keeps looking just like “the competitor’s” version. Right now, we’re even going to shorter sticks and alternative lighting fixtures such as low profile spots and floods – if you’re at BB, then the Axentz Light Discs you just received in stock should give you an idea of how low profile we’re talking. Also – if you’re comparing ICELED® to the ColorMorphics® POP Display installed in Best Buy’s as the only reference, we’re happy to say that quite shortly we’re going to be sending our the POP upgrades to make the display more accurate to the real system (it’s a challenge in today’s world to make displays as accurate as the real thing and still make them reasonably priced to “give away” – the Choose Color Mode didn’t end up being anything like what we wanted – that would explain your criticism of the fading colors….) – anyways – we’re always open to our customer’s suggestions – there isn’t any technological reason for having more or less pixellation than the ICELED® product, nor in any different length – merely what we had observed after years in the automotive marketplace.

So, given that – a 4 foot stick that simulates the equivalent of 4 or 8 10” MorphSticks for about…..$200 retail? (If we didn’t have to pay licensing fees to keep other peoples lawyers from potentially suing patent infringers, we could make it cheaper. But then again, if we were infringing patents, we probably wouldn’t be making them for very long! In case you’re wondering, that’s where a lot of today’s dollars end up going….)

Your opinions, as always, are welcome.

Thanks,
The Tireflys Team.

Dear customer,

We didn't want to be the same as everybody else, so we made something crappy to stand out and get noticed. Yeah.

If we didn't have to pay the patents and licensing fees (the ones we bragged about having earlier), we might be able to sell this cheaper.

We've been working on this for FIVE years!

Love, Tireflys

Yea there's no way there are 16 million colors on that kit, and there's no way there are 2.1 million colors on the plasmaglow 2.1M kit... It looks to me like 50 colors on the 2.1M color kit icon_neutral.gif

Spot on cc, instead of 8 bits we use 7 bits to specify each primary so we get 128*128*128 = 2.1 mil colors. There's a good reason for this too - it provides a more compact and reliable data transfer (similar to the tried and tested MIDI format used for musical instruments)

128 levels also gives better than 1% control which to the eye is seen as a continuous gradation and everyone's happy with that. As for how much control is available to the user, UFO provides individual control over R G and B so you can easily access all 2 mil. combinations when you want to icon_wink.gif

Where can I sign up for a UB kit that has less functionality than my ICELED, only displays one color at a time, no RGB control over exact colors (try getting a color close to gold without having control over the RGB values... ozzy_change.gif ), costs more, and isn't waterproof? THAT is what I've been searching for all this time! icon_lol.gif

Alright heres the plan guys. One person from every state and we will all act like distributor of ICE but we will only have phil ship it from his place. That way phil it gets great coverage and we confuse the hell out of TireFlys.
