I just got 30 blue LED's and 30 resistors from Phil and I am trying to figure out a few things before I install em.. I noticed the length of the anode and cathode on the LED's and I was wondering if I can cut em a little smaller and if that will damage them or change the coloring/brightness?
Also, does it matter which way I install the resistor or can it be any way (Unidirectional or Bidirectional).. And can I cut the leads of the resistors or will that do anything funky also? Thx. |

shorening the anode and cathode, will not effect the LED's color or brightness enough for a human eye to tell so go for it and don't worry about it.
the resistor is suggested to be placed on the positive lead which i think is the anode but however it can work on the negative lead buts i don't suggest it. I would rather the resistor fail before the LED.
nop, same thing with the LED leads. Oh and good luck, have fun and thank you for choosing Oznium. |

I know it has to be on the positive side, I am trying to figure out as the resistor has 2 ends, does it matter which end is to the LED and the opposite to the charge or will it resist/regulate the power any way? |

it doesn't matter which pole you use on the resistor for power first, but it is suggested that the gold/silver/bronze band be the last. Which means the power lease should be the lead that is the farthiest away from that band and then the closest llead to that band is to connect to the LED. |

doesn't matter for a resistor. at alll... or which side of the led you put it. the bands on the resistor just indicate what value they are...

right... there's just a chunk of carbon in there to slow the flow so it will slow the flow either way. |

who cares its a suggestion not like its going to kill the stuff, I suggest it no matter what anyone here says. I know its possible but I like it the way I think is good.

so did you just make that stuff up to impress us? about the bands and the lead?
back it up alien if you have a reason to do it that way.... I got LEDs I wanna know the ALIEN WAY of doing things.... |

nop, it is suggested so when people go to work on an electrical board they can read the bands as the go and not have to keep flipping the board around to see the bands in the correct order. It has no effect if its hook up wrong but it sure does make a difference when someone is following a circuit around a board and everything is lined up correctly. And every single electrical book an the class i took also says to do it that way, I know it doesn't really matter but for me its the ALIEN WAY>
Please refer to my 3rd to last post, not counting this one, Thank you for choosing the ALIEN WAY. |
