Mt St Helens just erupted here in Washington...Right now I am looking at a huge ash cloud moving over the skyline...Eruption was around 5:30 and is still spitting ash into the sky...nothing major but its the biggest one we've had since the 1980 eruption that blew off several hundred feet of the mountain...I'll try and look for some pics for you guys icon_neutral.gif

A lot of the seismographs that were around the mountain have been obliterated but my college recorded several earthquakes...Plume is said to have been 36000Ft tall, good thing its moving towards Eastern Washington icon_cool.gif

I live 20 min north of Seattle...no worries here for anything as long as the wind stays the way it is...the real threat here is Mt Ranier, its the next one expected to go and was supposed to blow 20 years ago or so...no activity on that one yet but if that one blew...Id be pretty well screwed icon_lol.gif

The University of Washington isnt expecting anything after this besides whats been going on since Sept of last year....The Magma dome inside the volcano actually grew off to the side and was 4 times as big as the original lava dome left after the 1980 eruption.....They are still expecting an eruption in the near future that could mirror the 1980 eruption icon_neutral.gif

hahaha, Kramer and I are fine from this volcano, we just have to worry about Baker and Rainier, those are HUGE and will cause some issues for Seattle as well.....I've personally been up to the observatory at Mt St Helens and its a pretty cool site to see the power of mother nature....Picture a huge forest and all you can see for miles and miles are trees that are all stripped of branches, bark, just the middle of the trees and all laid in the same direction, almost looks like a carpet of toothpicks....if you guys get the chance, look up some pictures of before and after the 1980 explosion if you have never seen it....Turned Yakima pitch black at 11 in the morning and I mean DARK icon_eek.gif

Jared, my dad got it off his roof in 1980 and its in a jar...also have pictures of the eruption when it first happend, we had a family friend who was flying his small Cesna over the volcano when it blew in 1980...AWESOME pics, i'll have to see if I can find them.....

Wind is blowing away from Kramer and I so we wont see any ash luckily....but if it gets on your car, imagine playing with sand that is mixed with plexiglass particles...it scratches the crap out of your car and is small enough to get sucked into the air intake and cease the engine, not very friendly stuff icon_cry.gif

Can't ya just wait till Ranier blows Kramer, we'll both be screwed, I just hope I wont be in downtown Seattle etc when it blows cause that would really suck icon_confused.gif

I'm surprised I haven't seen a single thing in the news about that.. I even looked for it yesterday.. hell, they still brought up stuff about the tsunami, yet that is breaking news and they didn't even make a brief mention of it... I'd think that'd be all over.. you know the news, always trying to cause mass hysteria...

I've been there, several times. In fact, my dad bought his Integra there back in 95. I've got friends all up and down the WA coast between Blaine and Chehalis.
