I'm glad to hear that you're gonna join the military, but like i ask everyone that is in the military,"Why the Air Force (or Navy or Army)?" Pretty much every service has the same kinds of jobs, the only difference is where and on what you could be stationed. Being where i am now (an Army base, where there are over 3000 Army personnel, 1500 Air Force personnel, 800 Navy, and only 250 Marines), i have come to realize just how appreciative i am of the service that i joined. I can't imagine myself being in any other service. As bad as it sounds, to me the other services are nasty and undisciplined. Now granted, every service has there examplory (sp?) members (and i'm sure a special forces unit like pararescue is one of them), but there is still no doubt that the Marine Corps holds its members to a higher standard... believe me, i've witnessed it first hand. This is also what makes us the fiercest fighting force in the world. Just a tidbit of info: technically everything that the Marine Corps does, can be done by the Army. So, America doesn't actually NEED us, but a general consensus of the population shows, that in fact America WANTS us.

You must also keep in mind that eveything i'm saying here is just one of those "brain washing" icon_rolleyes.gif things that they do to us in boot camp. We were trained to be the best, so of course we're gonna be **** about being the best. I haven't met one Marine to this day, that hasn't been a little ****. That's just part of our rebirth on Parris Island or in San Diego. All i'm asking you to do is go and talk to the Marine Recruiter, see what he has to say and then, if he hasn't swayed your decision go in the Air Force. If you do happen to pick the Marine Corps, i assure that you won't regret it... ever. Nothing fills me with pride and joy more than when someone on the street asks if i'm a Marine. Hell, around here (and this may just be DLI), but Seamen respect us, Soldiers envy us, and Airmen fear us (that may be because we steal their women biglaugh.gif). Just keep that in mind. icon_wink.gif icon_biggrin.gif

Each service is different. Here's how I would rank the services in just TWO areas: comfort of daily life and exposure to hostile fire (highest to lowest) --

Comfort of daily life: Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, Army

Exposure to hostile fire: Marine Corps, Army, Air Force, Navy

As far as discipline goes, my opinion would be: Marine Corps, Army, Navy, Air Force.

well, i chose the Navy because when i went to MEPS, nobody else would offer me the job i wanted, except the Navy--so i took it--i would have preferred the Marines in a way--but the Marines wouldnt offer me AECF-i went trough MEPS twice, once for the Marines, and once for the Navy--and i checked with the other branches
the Navy offered me the job i wanted, i jumped on it

The RED is to cutaway your main canopy, and the SILVER is to get your reserve canopy out.

But if you have a situation like a bag lock or a pilot chute in tow, then you don't need to cutaway, just pull the reserve.

i am pretty dead set on the AF PJ program. here's a link to my english paper i turned in last thurs i think? anyway, if any of you read it, lemme know what you think.

http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?f...=20050501124753

bobby, i actually wanted to be a marine first. partly because they're hard asses and partly because they have such cool uniforms. however, they dont have a firefighting program (which is what i initially wanted to be) so i looked to the NAVY. my bro and some of his buds are in the NAVY and they all told me that the AF has the better fire fighting program (what lady doesn't love a firefighting soldier eh?). So then after i got looking at what the AF has to offer, I came across the PJ. oooo, it sparked my interest wildly. i dare any marine to do this though

http://www.af.mil/news/airman/0200/pj.htm

also....
can any marine/navy/army man pass this?

Quote:
* Swim 25 meters underwater on one breath.
* Swim 1,000 meters sidestroke or freestyle in 26 minutes or under.
* Run 1.5 miles in under 10 minutes and 30 seconds.
* Pull off eight chin-ups in a minute or less
* Do 50 sit-ups in 2 minutes or less
* Pound out 50 push-ups in 2 minutes or less
* Complete 50 flutter kicks in 2 minutes or less

The only 2 things that i couldn't pass on that list would be the swimming part. And that's only because I'm a terrible swimmer to begin with. Also, the Marines do have a firefighting program called Crash Fire Rescue. Probably not the same thing, but it still sounds like fun...

Lie on your back with your hands palm down under your butt. Hold your legs out straight and together with your heels 6" off the ground. That's the starting position.

Left leg up to a 45 degree angle. (Count 1)
Left leg back down, right leg up to a 45 degree angle (Count 2)
Right up, left down (Count 3)
Left up, right down (Count 4)

That's one repetition. Just do it 49 more times in 2 minutes and you're golden. icon_smile.gif

ah, it actually wasn't that bad... you know its kinda like running a mile... after about 600 yards you go numb. The only thing... its not doggy paddle, but its all in technique. You train the whole semester... thats all you do during the class is swim an hour every class day.

in order to graduate recruit training you have to pass at least CWS-4 (the minimum required for most jobs). Some jobs in the Marine Corps will actually require you to be certified in CWS-1 (the hardest). I managed a CWS-3, and i've never really been a swimmer ever....
